   Topic: Hi, I'm new to the area

Hey Everybody,
I'm moving from NH to Seattle on 2/11 (boats coming between 2/15-2/18, and my car a little later)... and I'm looking to connect with some paddlers in the area. I'll bump this when the time gets closer.
I'll be looking to paddle on some intermediate class III runs. Not used to higher volume and haven't been in my boat in what feels like too long. And that whole "rapids are over rated back east" thing.
Looking forward to meeting some of y'all and boating in the PNW.

Welcome, Jen. It'll be great to have you. There are plenty of II+/III trips within an hour or so from Seattle. Take a look around the site, there are LOTS of boaters.

Thanks guys... Forgot to mention that I have 3 weeks of from work... so after my boats and car get here, I'll be looking for some weekday boating (like the week of 2/28).

There's a TON of people here with a great range of skill levels (class II-V+). Hi Jen, welcome to the PNW. I am also originally from New England, being from NH you'd call me a Massho... well I'll try to keep the euphemisms to a minimum. As far as soft East coast ratings, it's not quite cut-and-dry like that. The way I describe the differences from the E coast and WA is this, East coast has undercuts and sieves and WA has wood and a bit more mank, not a lot like CO but more than New England granite.
Also the NW is in constant transformation, floods come through and move wood, rearrange boulders, create landslides, and so much more, whereas in the 4 years paddling in NC there were never any changes that I was aware of. Kurle made a video that is a perfect example of this.

Hey, that's a nice vid. a massho, eh? i pretty much lived on the deerfield dryway last summer.
Glad I found this place.. someone pointed me here from our east coast board.

If you lived on the Dryway then you'll be totally fine on the Middle Middle Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and Green Gorge, the 3-4ish runs frequented by Seattlites. If you ran the right side of Dragon's tooth then you'll be looking for the challenging lines on these runs.
The tough part is getting used to 4 seasons of boating. These folks never rest.

The Dryway is where I cut my teeth so to speak, like Monk said you should do fine on the runs he mentioned.

ah, that is good to know then, thanks Owen. the green river gorge looks pretty cool. i never ran the death slot after seeing some bad beatdowns, but i did some of the creeky lines elsewhere - like the left side of labrynth.
guess i'm underselling and also looking to find some people i'm comfortable with before running anything challenging.
and most everything is frozen here, it sucks!
And one more thing... where are the easy clean 10'- 20' waterfalls out there?

Hey Jay,
Yep, that was you. And both Randy and Mark R have both told me I should hook up with you to paddle. Randy showed me down part of the bottom moose last spring (no fowlersville or anything after agers) and i have ran the dryway with mark... so they can speak to my ability anyway!
I am eager to get out there.

I'd be interested in paddling Saturday... but don't see much to choose from.
The Tumwater in Leavenworth might be an option but a lot of folks I know are headed South to Hood River.
Otherwise it may be a low water Sky run....
I'm just north of downtown Seattle.

Hi Kirk,
Not sure what is going on tomorrow yet, I may go up and take pictures of some Friends possibly doing a waterfall, but the Sky may be in the wheelhouse for tomorrow too. Wont know until tomorrow morning sometime though.

Yeah I have been eyeing the cc runs and they loook pretty sweet. Its been great easing into things though since I haven't paddled all winter.
