So I've been following the Icicle creek road issue, and it looks like there is no consensus on when the road will be open again, or if it will be open at all this summer.  I'm not very familiar with the upper section so I have a few questions.

1: How far from eightmile campground to the "normal" put in is it?
2: For anyone who has been out there and see it, how hard would it be to hike on the mudslide to the put-in? Would it be worth it?
3: does anyone have an ATV with a trailer that would want to help get boats to the put in if they do close the road?
4: has the mudslide affected the run at all? Wood? New rocks? Sediment deposits? Other?
5: Are there other road options to get there?

Thanks for the input.

A crew went up there on Saturday - ran Richochet thru the Plunge.  You can drive all the way back to Eight mile.  At that point you will look straight up the road into one of the biggest ugliest mudslide messes you ever did see.  It goes for several hundred yards up the road- you've probably seen the pics.  Lots of debris and some big boulders at the head of the sh^tpile.  You won't be driving any ATVs thru or on it.

On Friday I briefly spoke with a ranger at the Ltown office and she said that it would be a couple weeks, and sounded confident that the road will reopen sometime soon this Spring.  There are people who live year round back up in those woods so its a major inconvience for them and theres plenty of pressure building to see the mess cleared from rec enthusiast of all stripes.

It probably isn't worth the effort to do the hike in.  You need at least 5k at Pesh for the upper; and at that point other options are available.

The Middle stretch of Icicle (8m- plunge) is in primo condition except for one branch sticking into a boulderdrop ledge just above the plunge (visible from road), and that goes but the line is narrow.

As far as whether the upper run has been affected by the slide... that remains unknown, but I'll hazard the guess that it's all good up there.  The slide is way downstream from the classic Roadside/Limbo stretch of water... but as always, new wood could be an issue to report.  We'll see... hopefully by the end of April.

1. About 2-3 miles
2. The debris is over a 1/4 long and up hill. It might be worth it...but we will see how much work they get done. There are homes upstream of the landslide and they are stuck right now. So it is likely that they will create a passage but it may remain closed to through traffic.
3. Not that I know of and I don't think an ATV could get over it
4. No
5. No

As of saturday the slide was still there and no equipment was in place to start removing it. Really wierd how most of the material made the abrupt left turn onto the road and rarely ended up more than a foot or two off of either side.

There were snow banks on either side of the road when the slide came down...

Any news in regard to clearing the landslide and opening up the road again?  There's well over a hundred campsites up there (Upper and Lower Johnny Creek, for instance).  I can't imagine where all those holiday campers went if the road was still out this weekend.
