River Days: 100
Swims: 4
Personal first descents: 19

That's my best year ever. I should have got divorced years ago. Hail Fibnok!

The results are in. Here's how Wetmouse spent 2008:

Total paddling days (pool time not included): 99 (includes saltwater trips)
River Days: 88
River Trips: 110
Full Moon Trips: 2
Winter Wonderland Trips: 4
Personal First Decents: 19

Swims: 1
Amount of time spent giving Leif S#*t about Simple Green: immeasureable

Here's how I rally the taly:
All of my time spent in my sea kayak includes freshwater lake(s) and saltwater trips (11 days total).
Any time on a river constitutes a "trip", and a "day" on the river. This includes the race on the Sammamish, when I paddled my sea kayak.

Multiple 'trips" occur on various river days when more than one put-in/take out/shuttle occurs. Therefore, I count 6 laps on F.I.T.W. as one day, one trip. A lap being a subset of a trip.
I count a trip on Icicle followed by a trip on the Wenatchee as two trips in the same day.
I count a trip down McCoy crk, onto Yellowjacket to the take out as ONE trip.

But, that's just me. These are but mere trivial things in the grand scheme of things, but keeping track of these details is a great way to expend extra enthusiasm after a day on the river, and potentially good info to reference later (trip reports in the river log).

I also could tell you how many trips were in my creekboat, Diablo, and misc. other craft, where I stopped on the river to "set safety" ect. but who cares?

Of those 88 river days, 84 of them occured after April 1st, so really there was a lot of time I could've been paddling between January and the end of March. I'm pretty content with the amount of time I got in, since I still managed to work at least 30-35 hrs a week during the months that I got the most paddling in.

Can't wait to find out what's in store for 2009! If it's really a low water year, I'll probably be out on the salt water a lot more. Otherwise I'm planning on pointing it downstream!

That sounds like a complex formula! I just go kayaking as much as possible, cause it's my main workout, and I don't keep track anymore. But I think I was out there at least 100 times.

19 Personal Firsts is impressive. Bravo to you both for that standout number. Pros traveling full time and boating 200+ days per year can struggle to get 30, so 19 in 100 river days is well done.

I got 14 PFDs in my 99 river days this year.

85 river days, approximately 20 of which were in a raft.

Since this is my first year kayaking, my approximately 65 kayak days included 23 personal first descents,

6 swims, not including GC (none since August),

1 waterfall,

1 Grand Canyon descent (23 days, including 21 raft days and 6 kayak swims in 2 days (clearly not ready after only 5 previous days in a kayak),

1 trip to Chile for 6 days of kayaking/rafting on and near the Futaleufu.

6 days on the Main Salmon extended trip

River bests were Lower Tilton in a playboat after only 14 days in a kayak, Tumwater (2 successful runs (1 POW), 1 broken boat), Cascade River, and White Salmon Farmlands.

Looking forward to upping the ante in Year 2!

What an awesome first year in the NW!
30 pfds out of 34 rivers run (plus one day of surf kayaking), and around 50 paddling days in 4 states.
Only one multiday...and one broken ankle.

yeah,
-1 Booty Beer.
-1 stolen boat
-1 whitewater otter encounter (Jefferson Creek)
-several cans of beans washed down with El Tapatio (hang out with D1--Thanks for
       the beans, Dave!)
-1 camper crash engulfed in flames along the side of the highway up on Snoqualmie
Pass--that's right: while we were all lapping Fall-inda-wall--WITH EXPLOSIONS
       AND EVERYTHING!!
-4 fantastic days on the N.Frk Payette
-3 Lungfulls of Simple Green (well, maybe more than 3)
-1 Rap into the Carbon w/ D-1
-30 some odd laps on FITW

easily the most fun year of paddling I've had yet in the Pac N.W.
Looking forward to 2009 now. As much as it's snowing, I'm curious to see how the snowpack lays down throughout the winter.

Well, I fell short of my goal to hit 100 days, but I did make 84.  I missed out on over a month of paddeling from Thanksgiving until just after X-mas due to other conflicts of interest (mostly work - aarrgh!), but so far the new year is starting off right - got 2 days already.  So as for my numbers...
-Skykomish - 27 runs through BD, hand paddled twice, possibly swam once or twice
-22 PFD's of varying difficulty from II-IV, notable fun runs were Ashlu Mini-Mine, Upper Chekamus, Foss, Soo, Little Wenatchee, White Salmon-Farmlands, and NF Nooksack.
-1 broken boat and a few swims along the way
-Multiple weekend trips to "The Great White North" with only one hasseling by Canadian Border Patrol for my membership in the NRA.  What's that all abooot, eh? haha!
-More good times and new friends then I can count
-Determined that Simple Green is actually more healthy then V8 juice, it has 9 different vegetables in every spray!

2008 was a great year and '09 is looking like it will be even better.  Can't wait to see ya'll on the rivers!
