Fun FactsCan be combined with the run downstream to Mehema for a 16 mile class 2-3 trip. |
Run Description [Season: year round]This is a popular trip on a large river for rafts and kayaks with nice scenery. It can be run at minimal flows around 1000 cfs all summer due to dam releases, but is more fun with more water. Also, they dump water in the fall usually starting in early October allowing for fall runs before the rains bring other rivers up.
Most of the run is class 2+ with the exception of Spencer's Hole (3 to 4 depending on levels) and Mill City falls, which is a rocky 4 foot ledge just above the take-out. Spencer's Hole has a great playspot at some levels. Another rapid of note is Carnivore, which is a class 3 ledge on the left side of an island. It can be avoided entirely by running the other side of the island.
Medium levels on this run are between 2000-4000. It can be run higher too, but a couple of the rapids get pretty beefy.
