For some reason I've been turning down a bunch of Tumwater trips over the past few years. I guess there's been so many new runs to do most weekends that I've focussed on instead. I'm really not very familiar with it. Most people seem to run it during the off season when it's low, making it a safe and pallatable class IV - IV+ run with a few V's you can bite off if you want ( @ 1200 -2400 cfs)
This is only the second time I've run it below 2400 or so, and it was a lovely run. I've really overlooked it and plan on heading back there more. It was around 1000 cfs or lower yesterday. Maybe just slightly below my personal low end cap: there were a few clusters of rocks in some landing zones that I'd prefer to cover up with more water, and some pillow moves that could use more padding to make them more dynamic and fun.
Yeah, I know a lot of you are aware of it. But for the recent transplants or those who want to shake the rust off their "Off-The-Couchness", this seems like it would be a good run in this basic flow range. And to those who are new to creeking, or on a quest to start "stepping it up" (lol: that pharse always makes me chuckle), this run is good for that too. A great place to solidify class V paddling technique in a fairly forgiving class IV setting. Quality action.

Yeah, Tumwater is a great run... and I'm looking forward to making more trips over this Spring.

Sorry I missed you guys this round. I was checking out some new possibilities near Concrete, WA. We focussed on the stuff that the B-ham crew may know about but it is still pretty uncharted and very remote. Lots of walled in gorges and waterfalls but pain to pleasure ratio is leaning toward lots and lots of pain. H2Ohta- Concrete eh? You should check out Swift Creek on the north side of Baker Lake. But I wouldn't bother scouting, just drop in with your boat, and a lot of rope. And hiking shoes. There is at least one twenty footer in there that we didn't run, maybe do to the unscoutable, unprotected seived out ledge downstream, but hey, it might go... But Thunder Creek to Lake Shannon...there is a little low water gem... |

| The in-between was really low, Horner. You would have to scoot some. I think there's still room in all the main drops. The flow was around 650 at Plain. |

Definitely more than 650 in the crik though. Much closer to 1000, I'd say. But then again, it's hard to judge. Bret's right. You'd want more like 1200, I'd say.
