Does anyone have a reference to explain how ya do a reverse screw roll? I've run across a single pic but unlike all the other rolls that show numerous illustrations of the different stages, I can't find a reference that shows the stages of the reverse screw roll. I tried it a month or so ago in the pool and I was messin' something up but can't figure out what. I think I was challenged leaning back far enough or sinking my paddle. Somethin' like that. Frustrating. Thanx.

by screw roll you mean back deck roll? if so, the reverse is pretty tricky, normally because your control hand (i.e. right hand control) blade is set at angle so that it sinks. normally if you are right handed you start the back deck turning to the left. turning to the right's pretty hard (i.e. nearly impossible)
or so i was told when i tried to have a pro teach me to reverse back deck roll.
of course, you could be talking about something completely different.

We're probably talking the same thing. Here's a reference:

Nope screw is not Backdeck... Screw looks to be more of the sea to sea... right or side to side.. forget which one it is called.

What they are calling a screw roll is just a botched version of the Sweep Roll. As for doing a reverse version of the sweep roll, it is possible but not really practical. It is not very useful and difficult to set up for.
Just learn how to do a normal sweep roll, backdeck roll, and a Back Deck hands roll and you will have all the rolls you will ever need.
Also, was it just me or did pretty much every roll on that site look like they were just doing C to C rolls from different angles?

On the reference you looked at the reverse screw roll and not the screw roll, right?

Do you have a reference for the backdeck roll?

yea, i looked at the reverse screw roll, which looked suspiciously like a back deck roll. for a back deck roll (also called a rodeo roll), see http://www.paddlermagazine.com/issues/2001_4/article_125.shtml
once you get a tight hip snap, you can actually go all the way around without getting your head wet. not that i've done that. but i have seen it done.

I consider the REVERSE screw roll the same as a REVERSE sweep roll or a back deck roll. I've done it several times after flipping in a hole without tucking and ended up lying on my back deck so I was already in a position to do a REVERSE sweep roll, but I try to avoid doing it. Your technic or form has to be perfect or you can really mess up your shoulder.
