I found a fun little mini-run last weekend after a float and bloat run on the Skagit. Goodell Creek is the little creek that pours into the Skagit just upstream of the put-in.

The put-in is at the upper group camp on the east side of the creek. (There's also a group camp on the west side-don't put in there, its below all the good stuff). You're probably supposed to have the camp reserved to be going up there (which we did last weekend) but if it's empty you can probably sneak in for a quick run without bugging anyone.

Basically, the run starts right off the bat and goes though a cool canyon with pool-drop rapids. Boulder gardens/boulder ledges mostly in the class 3-4 range with one 4+. I had a pretty low, but do-able flow. Probably about 250 cfs. For reference, Bacon Creek was around 330 cfs. I think 400 would probably be optimal. There's around a half-dozen good rapids and then the canyon opens up and it's shallow class 2 the rest of the way down to the takeout. You can use the Highway bridge or float out onto the Skagit and use the boatramp.

This isn't a run you would head out specifically to do, but if you're in the area and want a quick run, it's pretty fun.

Sorry, but boating got in the way. 7+ feet on the Stilly is good fun. Woulda been there if it was a Friday night deal... but since I gotta be working for a livin', I couldn't make it a late night.

Finally got another chance to do a lap on the short Goodell Creek canyon yesterday. Had a nice medium flow this time. Probably 350-400 cfs. Everything was good to go except one rapid we all walked the main drop because all the current pasted into a boulder. Good fun. For reference, Bacon creek was around 450 cfs and Newhalem Creek was about 180 cfs.

if you're willing to hike there's more stuff upstream. I've been by there a few times going in to and out of the pickets. it gorges up at a couple points and sounds pretty loud from way above. good trail and it'd be less of a suffer fest than actually hiking all the way in to terror basin or up to the barrier. 2 of the steepest "trails" I've been on. probably 2.5 or 3 miles with 500 or so feet of elevation gain. not bad at all.
