Heh, no surprises there.  I know it's a generalization, but there are a lot of pricks in the climbing world.

Yeah. "idiot kayaker", huh? Takes one (climber) to think he knows one.
 
Well I was with the guy who swam. I can say with conviction he is no idiot. In fact, he's a SOLID paddler.
 
That is a very respectable chunk of whitewater to say the very least. It's not hard to get down if you have the skills and keep your shit smooth. It also looks quite easy to make a single mistake that will get you thrashed. I'm knocking on wood here, Icicle. Please have mercy on me.
 
Since when are these outdoor sports all about being aces 100% of the time? Oh-never mind. Since the MTV 21st century "Real World"-"Myspace"- Mentality took over.
 
If you don't get bit off at least once in a great while you're not having an adventure with your life.

WHO IT WAS matters not to you. You weren't there. Now that everyone has f**king cameras and the fricking internet, well, I'm mustering all my will power to NOT launch into a tiraid (tire-aid?). I vowed to stop indulging in this smack. Dragging people's biz out in the street is lame.
 
Suffice to say that who swam, as far as I am concerned, is a PRIVATE matter. It wasn't me, but it could have been. So what?
 
Worry about keeping your OWN ASS in the boat.

Well me and JP were part of that group and that swim was executed by the paddler/swimmer with flawless lines and pretty dramatic skill. The same paddler aced up richochet and several other wicked rapids with the cleanest lines of the day out of our group.

Sometimes you swim, push your limits or don't.... I won't call the climbers dumbasses cause that would basically be doing the same thing. But I will say that it would be sweet to have a climber that could wax all those monkeys go and let them know whats what!!!!!

Hey JP, I'm not sure why your mad at me? I was not calling anyone out.  I even defended the swimmer on CC.com (I posted as ridet61).  I agree with your sentiments that people online talk a lot of smack.  My intent was to call out the smack talkers.  I did so online and I would be glad to do so in person as well.  
 
Looks like another classic case of the internet not being able to convey tone.  In retrospect I should have worded the title of the post differently.  I can see how you might think I was trying to call someone out. 
 
Come on JP, give me a little credit.  Am I really that much of a prick?

Power to ya, wetmouse.  Anybody who has ever paddled icicle (or anyone who has pulled over to check it out, for that matter)  knows that you have to know your shit to make it down that creek unscathed.  I say delight in that frigid spring swim.  The people standing on the bank know nothing because they merely allow their eyes to touch the water, it's the paddler who puts their life in her hands who gets to reap the rewards.

I paddled Icicle lst year mothers day weekend with Marco Colella when the wenatchee was over 9,000. I walked Ricochet, but ran safety while Marco Paddled it. It was amazing to watch. I was scared just looking at that rapid.
 
We ran all the way down and took out just above horseshoe. It was one of the scariest days of my life. I kept saying to myself, "the road is right there - just walk off." If any of y'all know Marco - he has this infectious motivation to run big water.

Funny you mention Marco.  That guy gets away with the craziest stuff I've ever seen.  He's like drift wood melting thru the biggest features.  Can't say I've boated with him, cause it's just like you said, he likes it big and pushy. 
 
On another note... ICICLE is perhaps the very finest roadside creek run in WA.  It also seems to produce more carnage than any other river I know of, and the epics it brings can be life changers.  Seen the worst swim that I hope never to see the likes of again,
and swims on the Icicle can be quite dangerous (as they can be on any continous stretch of whitewater).  Word to the wise.

My balls just shrivel looking at it.  Which is yet another reason I would not talk smack about someone for swimming it.

Hey Brock ,  I dont know who that clown is. Just someone who knows nothing about boating and quick to judge what he sees.

I'll be in Leavenworth Fri.Sat.Sun.       Maybe getiing some great low impact exercise!
