Oh its the Sky no doubt as far as close and best to seattle. There are waves on the middle middle and green but they are nuthing to what gets produced up on the sky. Check out that wave just below the confluence in the first rapid.... That one gets really big with 15k + levels .... never seen it over 25k though and its gonna be big tomorrow. ------------- |

Real nearby and real exciting is the wave train under the RR Bridge just below Split Rock on the Sky. Just to run laps inbetween the two takeouts (at Split Rock, and just down (W') Hwy 2) would be awesome. I've done an 18K on the Sky, but what is the MM like above 10K?

And the Sky sure was fun at 18K! Those waves at the railroad bridge were Lochsa sized. Erik I know that was you who chucked the snowball. |

I'd say Twin Otter would be good, but then I think it is probably washed out with 43k and maybe gone after things come down. Best play waves in Western WA, aside from Soleduck, and they have eddy service too. That's alright, couldn't get there anyway as the really major road to that part of the state will be closed for the next 3 days. Skykomish between 15k and 20k has several epic waves. First is at the top of Powerline Rapid, the second is right below Boudler Drop. Man, I am envious of anyone who gets on the weir tomorrow! I'm stuck out here in dry ol' Colorado! ------------- |

There was a wicked wave on the MM last year at about 10k. It was located where that big nasty hole in the middle of the river in one of the rapids somewhere between A Frame and the House Rocks. Jeff B., I saw you work your way out of that thing at about 3k once, when it's a nasty hole. Do you know the name of that rapid? Can you provide a better description?
It's in the middle of the river w/o eddy service but it sure was big, steep and fast. Could be worth the walk back up but no guarantees. Not sure how hard it would be to catch as I blew right by it before I realized how cool it was.

sounds like you're describing the surprise in surprise drop. It's a couple drops above house rocks. After a class II-III section with a house along the left bank, the river bends left and enters surprise drop, which can be run left or right (or center high) except for the big hole center at the bottom. there's a III, then the right angle drop on the bend to the right that is above house rocks. ------------- |

I'll play Nick. Chehalis? I remember Zderic saying there was a great high-water, big wave section on The Chehalis. Never got there to check it out though.
I also remember Juicer going on about The Southern Green. There are my guesses.

Very good Erik. You guessed correctly with Chehalis. Although there are several runs on this river. Lucky for you I have the coordinates of the waves (geeked out with the GPS). Oooh Southern Green would be going off right now. Wonder how the access is? Although I think the Chehalis may be the better river of the two. I know the shuttle isn't as long as the Green. |

Oh boy...it always makes me giddy to guess right. James, still high & dry for now. Didn't do anything last weekend. That prolly won't last this weekend. I'll either get out boating, or maybe look to shred some frozen-rad. Arm's healing up nicely. Jodi took some stitches out this morning, the rest are coming out tonight. Are you still on the DL this weekend?
There's a crew assembling for a Robe-recon mission for Friday. I won't be able to make that. Fingers-crossed.

I am out still ... but the shoulder is starting to heal up faster. I went out snowshoeing the other day and started to feel it by the end of the hike, so I might take another weekend or two off before getting back out on the water. Anyone that heads to the chehalis ... get some photos of that wave... i am really curious ------------- |

If by the southern green, everybody is referring to the Green River Gorge, then I don't have much to add.
All I know is I headed down to the Green River Gorge for my first time while the guage was reading 2000 cfs. Unbenownst to me, the river jumped up to 3600 -4000 CFS while I was driving there. The water was big. Comparable to the grand canyon. I wasn't paying much attention to the individual waves and holes, I was just trying to get through it w/o swimming.
Seems like it would be a whole lot of fun in a play boat for the right group of people.
