I especially like the way they just let him churn in the hole without doing anything to help.  That's tough love at its finest.

what could you do for him?  That hole he was in flushes under the slab.  any rope work just risks entrapping a swimmer under the slab, from what I can tell.

Unless you set safety from river right, in which case you could pull right away from the sieve.  But ... you'd have to bag him before the hole he swam out of, so again ... not much one could do.

It's just an exposed line.  I haven't scouted the left line fully, but I can say there's no way I'd run the right side line.  A better line looks like parking your boat on the slab and getting out!!! lol

JD,
there is way too much confusion concerning your post "go left"

Let's be a little more specific.
That is typically a portage on the left.
So is there a change that now makes the rapid more "runnable" river left?

my recollection is there is a left line and it is a better line, but had wood in it when I've been there.  the line was not readily apparent from the left side portage route, as you are on an overhanging bench when you portage.

I have seen that line too and it had wood in it last year. I am guessing the wood is gone which makes that left sneak runnable. It's not a gimme sneak though, you still have to manage the entrance. It would be nice not to have to make that mountain goat portage though!
