Posted By: siegfried Subject: Outfitters for Salmon River? Date Posted: 23 Feb 2015 at 5:22pm Can someone recommend an outfitter for the Salmon? I'm trying to do some summer vacation planning. I've been paddling class III & V for many years. My partner Constance wants to ride in a raft. We'd like to hire an outfitter for the Salmon. I've never done the salmon before. (1) Which section to you recommend? Main? (2) Can you recommend an outfitter that will take Constance in a raft and won't force me to ride in a raft? Constance did some calling and found that the outfitters did not like taking kayakers because that contributed to to the total boat count! That is news to me. (3) Constance wants warm water and sunshine and I want high water and big waves. Might early July be a reasonable compromise? We had 3 kayakers on the trip as well and they were totally fine with it. Done multiple trips on the middle fork and the main. my take was the middle fork has better whitewater and the main has better white sand beaches. Posted By: jfer202 Date Posted: 23 Feb 2015 at 9:56pm O.A.R. runs a pretty classy trip on the lower fork of the salmon. It's not very hard whitewater mostly class 3. It's almost always beautiful weather and the water temps are always good. Sandy beaches every night and a bunch of good canyons and scenery. O.A.R. puts customers in I.K.'s or in rafts, your choice, but I think they would probably let you bring your own kayak. It's a six day trip normally.
