Well I've somehow managed to crack my Villain.
It's small (for now) 
I'm guessing given it's location it'll only get bigger. Based upon this thread: http://www.professorpaddle.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8068&KW=kayak+repair Plus a bit of googling it doesn't seem that crosslink Jackson plastic can be repaired. Best bet is to go back to Jackson on this and see if they'll sell me a hull cheap? |

If it's less than 3 years old, Jackson Kayak may hook you up. Though I can't find it now, I've read on the Jackson site that the warranty is transferable. http://jacksonkayak.com/about-jackson-kayak/jk-support/2012-jackson-kayak-limited-manufacturer%E2%80%99s-whitewaterfishing-warranty/
If the boat is older, drill holes in the ends of the crack to try to keep it from spreading. Patch with G-flex. I've known a few people who managed to milk their boat for quite a while with this type of repair, but... you probably should be thinking about a replacement boat. Good luck. |

You could try putting a patch on it. JayB fixed a boat with a Rec Repair patch. He sanded the edges, added G Flex around the edges and also taped the inside up with bituthene. One of the reasons to buy a Jackson boat is the excellent warranty. I suggest calling Jackson to see if you can warranty it. Even if its out of warranty, they might cut you a deal on a shell and you can put your old outfitting in it. I don't trust cracked boats, but I guess it depends on the whitewater you run.
My cracked Villain expanded pretty quickly during the course of three IV-V creek runs. And it was in about the same place as yours. Bummer, and good luck. ------------- sitting all alone on a mountain by a river that has no end |

| Yup, can't weld crosslink. Send Jackson an email to their support staff with a picture. I put a giant crack in my 2010 Villain earlier this year and they hooked me up, even gave me a huge discount on a Karma. |

If you do decide that you want to repair the boat, even for use as an ELF abuse boat, putting a rec-patch on both sides and backing up the interior patch with bituthane will do the trick. As Scott mentioned, I put the rec-patch on the outside, and then added a whaley weld backed up by a 12"x12" bituthane patch over the top of that and it's held up for a couple of years and is going strong. Not my regular boat, but it's made for a good back-up/loaner. ------------- -Jay |
