ok... so cant seem to keep the damn water drops off my gobro.... tried rainx, tried spit, etc. Should the rainx be applied every trip?....

Soak the lens with rain-ex the night before... don't touch it again... works for me! I still get some drops, fast forward and see what you think... since I have to blink my eyes to see constantly, I don't think there's a way to totally eliminate drops. I'm totally open to any other suggestions though! ------------- H2O please |

squeeze in-between your fingers an orange rind. Lightly rub CLEAN orange rind outer skin on lens- the natural orange oil will repel water. GoPro Hero3 lens is a better less convex unit, so way less water hangs up on upper 3rd. Love mine with the LCD backpack! ------------- This river don't go to Aintry. You done taken a wrong turn. |

If you're going to use RainX, you're probably going to have to apply it before each trip. Way back when, I used to use that stuff on my car's windshield and you had to reapply it pretty regularly. Pretty much every day if it was rainy.
One thing I've heard that makes sense it the higher you can get your camera, the further from the water it is and the less it's going to get splashed. Of course, if you're really having fun, it's just going to get splashed. I'm probably too cheap to buy one, but Jackson Kayak's stern mount contraption jacks the camera up over the head and looks like they're getting pretty good video from it. Not sure what happens if you roll in shallow water, but... In Jackson's video pimping his camera mount, talks about using the remote set up and he's just sticking the remote in his pfd. Is that thing really waterproof? If so, that's awesome. |

On the topic of food based ideas like Erik's In most cases oil based products such as butter, lard, or even olive oil will repel water, I would go out on a limb and say that smearing crisco all over the lens would probably keep water dropplets off pretty well too. I have not tried this though. |

I think if you've already used rainex, you've shot yourself in the foot. Simple Green that stuff off of there!
I really do not like that product. It smears and changes colors, at least in my past experiances.
I swear by simply spitting on the lens. You need to do this often. I hear a lot of people say that they wasted their footage but I only see them rub spit on their GoPro at the putin.
I lose very little footage due to water droplets. You'll occasionally get drops while in a rapid but they roll right off if you've been liberally applying phlegm.

| alright sweet. a little water droplet here and there is fine but i was having it to the point where I couldn't see what i had been trying to film. A hero 3 would be sweet and I have heard it reduces the issue. but $$$$$ |

I like the spit idea, it maks great sense but getting the GoPro on-and-off the helmet mount between rapids (while floating) would prob mean I'd drop the darn thing (aside: I do use a tether). Maybe if I practiced spitting upwards, then paddling under it so it falls on the GoPro? I ain't taking my helmet off while in the boat.  |
