Hey PPers,

I know I've seen these threads before...  but what airlines are best for going to ecuador with a kayak?  I saw united but that they don't allow creekboats anymore.

any suggestions from anyone that has flown recently?

Thanks!
Jen

Talk to Chris Jonason original owner of wave trek.

Don and Darcy from Small World Adventures just posted here saying that it was harder than normal to get boats to south america.  Maybe email them for suggestions on this or renting or buying a boat when you get there...

If you have a boatbag tell them it's a surfboard. Airlines don't know what a kayak is but they do know surfboards. See if TACA flying out of SFO to San Salvador has flights on to Ecuador. Will cost you though.

Thanks everyone!

Talked to Darcy and she said people have luck wrapping it in a tarp and calling it a wave ski.

Also learned that it's VERY easy to sell boats down there.. and VERY hard to buy them.  I'm hoping to rent a boat, or take one to sell.  anyone have any advice for renting a boat down there?  Don and Darcy no longer rent, but they have linked me to one person that does.

Anyone else have any travelling or kayaking tips specific to Ecuador?  This will be my first international boating trip (excluding the Ottawa).

Thanks!
Jen

They have some cool bags to put them in for flying. Just the ends stick out. Dan said to call them "surf skis" when talking to the airlines. As long as you aren't taking a big creek boat it should work!

Keep in mind it's free to fly them to New Zealand ;)
