I tried out the new Aire Force thanks to Shaun Allumbaugh of Aire in Boise. I only had time to give the Aire Force a work out on the Boise River Weir but it is a fun predictable playful IK, I really liked it! It carves in an out of eddies as good as a hardshell, better than the Stiletto or Sotar. The Aire Force is well balanced and responsive for front and back surfing along with 360’s. It has a controllable pearl that sheds water nicely, unfortunately the water was to shallow for doing pirouettes. Being a novice IK’er I still have problems lifting the edge when sidesurfing, it was a bit better than the Stiletto, but not as good as the 20 year old Sotar I tried. The other drawback of the Aire Force is, hardly any room to tie safety gear, lunch and water bottle. I will be headed to Oregon in September to try the new Sotars before making my final purchase decision. FYI creek boaters, Jim Sheflo (425-343-4105) is making up several new Stilettos, if I was young enough to be a creeker, that would be the IK I would choose.
