headed to WA on the 1st, staying for the week. have creekboats, looking for class IV-V. what regions would be good to base out of?

#1 - Leavenworth - plenty of IV/V runs within 30 minutes (Icicle, Nason, Little Wenatchee, Tumwater, Ingalls, Peshastin, Entiat). Less than 1 hour drive to Index with another half dozen quality class IV/V runs (Tye, Foss, NF Sky, etc). #2 - Hood River area - mainly Little White Salmon (V) and White Salmon (IV-V Green Truss). ------------- |

Yep. A pretty sweet array of runs are clustered near Leavenworth this time of year, and the weather is nice. There's also the Entiat, the Cle Elum, and later the Cooper. Jeff Bennett's book still rules, IMO. Its got all the major destinations. If you are reasonably close by, the middle fork Snoqualmie is at a nice level right now (nicknamed the middle middle or MM around here). I note that people are meeting at noon for a run.

The Little White was still chugging along at a decent "low-side-of-good flow", 3.2 on the top gauge, a couple days ago. Hard to argue with starting your trip in the Hood.
Around Seattle we've got tons of water. Our local class V runs, Robe, Ernie's and the Carbon are running on the higher side of good right now, and should be runnable for the next 2-4 weeks. Lots of other options on the Sky corridor out to Leavenworth ranging from class IV creeking to bigger water class V. |

The Foss was a nice medium level going up a tad yesterday at 8,300 @main sky guage. It's supposed to trend down a bit, but that and the Rapid would be good warmups for Icicle. You could also hit up Upper Nason and Little Wenatchee on your way over. They are both at good levels. If Nason is high, be head's up as it moves fast in the canyon. Little W. has wood so hooking up with locals would be handy on that one. |

| Thanks for the additional info. Is robe really high? Am hearing 5.5 is a good med level and it seems to be closing in on that. Anyone have info on the wood situation on the China gorge section of Cle Elem? Am told that might be good but there are potentially some wood concerns. Thanks again for all the feedback. |

looks like it could spike to 6.5' by Wednesday. that might be a bit roudy if you don't know the run. should be good to go 6' and below if you are comfortable on pushy water and boat 5 often. might be out there wednesday at 830am if you want to rally a lap. 253 five49three94five ------------- |

| The Bennett guide says 1000 is the top range, but I think it goes higher than that. If you're driving by, just take a look at the slides near the put in. i\If they look juicy, it's high. |
