Does anyone have any camping suggestions for white salmon/hood river area?

I'm happy dirt bagging it, may or may not want a fire. Will only be there in the evenings and leaving in the morning. Prefer WA side, prefer free, but open to suggestions.

Respectfully, and, no offense meant, but ask yourself:

If you had a few really low key camping spots you knew of, would you want to broadcast them to the Entire Paddling Community along with whoever on the internet?

That's how really sweet enjoyable places quickly become not so sweet anymore.

I know that's not the response you were looking for, but I am DONE disclosing all my favorite spots to the general public.

That said, if you see me on the river and ask me, you'd likely get different results. I might want to share my beta w/ YOU, for example. But it doesn't mean I want to share it w/ everyone.

I mention this because the internet blows the lid off way too much beta. A currency loses its value if distributed to the point of ubiquity.
Before the internet, it was Outside Magazine. Always listing "The Top Ten Towns To Be Seen Driving Around With A Kayak and Skis on Your Roof in the Same Day" and other such articles.

Nope. Go down and find your own camp spots. Or be friendly and ask the locals. Interact online less, and in person more.

My advice would be to head up the road out of Trout Lake into the National Forest. There are plenty of spots on there, depending on how far you want to drive. The campground in Trout Lake is pretty nice too, despite being IN the "town" proper.

JP, you're totally correct. but it didn't hurt to ask i guess.

thanks for the advice BRoss, I'll check it out.

i just know of there's the one campground right on the WA side by hood river... and there's a very annoying train that goes by.
