Driving down to the Rogue all day Friday. It's either an easy drive down  or a long day if we boat on the way down. Currently, the best options appear to be either:

The EF Lewis, but that would require us to bring our creekers in addition to our play boats (we haven't been on it b/f); OR
The White Salmon, which involves an extra 3 hours drive time, but should  have a shuttle that would be easy to hitch and would be the perfect difficulty for us.

Any suggestions for other options that would make a good side trip within the following paramaters?
  • class 3 or easy 4
  • we can use our play boats
  • not far off i-5, not that time intensive
  • likely to have good flows on Fri.

Thanks!

I am going to do the rouge also at the end of the month and also looking for some good side trips for the way down and back up..

the white salmon was definately on the list even though it is out of the way.

the clackamus isnt that far off I-5.  awesome whitewater and good flows right now!

also i heard that the molalla might be a good 3/4 run,  i might be forgetting the name though, it is not in the bennet boook.  i heard about it from the next adventure guys in portland.

if you have any other ideas, in the 3/4 range i would be interested to.

have a good trip, I would be stooked to hear a trip report about the rouge at these high flows

The Three Bears section of the Mollala is probably what the Next Adventure guys were talking about. Same difficulty as the clack but I think the scenery is better and the rapids are more interesting. No great playspots like Bob's though.

The play run on the north santiam could also fit, but its a mixed bag with a bunch of flatwater. The Mckenzie is a way better option, that's probably one of the best 2-3 rivers around.
