Check out this old picture I found. This might come in Handy next time you are stuck in a hole! You put it down through your spray-skirt and into the cockpit for an air supply then attach the snorkel mouthpiece to your pfd and when you need air its there! I don't know how you could grab it in a hydraulic or when your head is hitting rocks, but it is an interesting idea...

What's almost scary is that I already thought of something like that. :) Hard to imagine using it in the middle of being windowshaded, but I guess if you were stuffed into some underwater feature it might buy you a little time.How about this guy? When I saw this my first thought was, 'I would never have to swim again'. :) (From .23 to the end of the video he doesn't come up for air.) Pretty amazing.

23 meters!!? YOUCH! My head would explode! It hurts to dive 9 ft in a deep pool! I don't much care for that snorkel as much as I care to get me a pair of those swimming panties!  ------------- |

Apparently these guys burst their eardrums on purpose when they get started doing that. And also please warn us before you show up at the takeout in the swimming panties. ------------- It's all fun and games until someone loses a paddle. |

Jesus, bursting eardrums?? Ouch. I could descend pretty quickly while diving, even when I was sick. On the topic of breathing tubes, some Dragorossi creek boats used to come with this type of system. Maybe they still do ... a few months back I read a http://totalwhitewaterfun.blogspot.com/2010/04/safety-for-spring-time-creeking.html - blog post by a guy who had removed the Drago tube and now carried it in his kit. His rationale was that in many pin situations with drowning potential the victim's head is only a couple feet below water, and that the tube could be fed down to the victim and buy time for an extraction. Definitely an interesting idea ... |

I agree, it may be kind of an unlikely situation but I've heard more than one person say they had someone almost in their arms who eventually died from being pinned not far under the surface. I'd love to know if anyone has actually used one of these for that. ------------- It's all fun and games until someone loses a paddle. |
