What time would you be thinking about running Pilchuck if that comes in tomorrow? I've been wanting to get on that, let me know what your plan might be.

What worries me is that the line is still verticle and it is still pouring!

At what level does Pilchuck Creek step up the difficulty?

I never thought I'd say this, but it looks like it rained too hard last night. The river page looks like Van Gogh's blue period, and everything is going over vertical. Hell the Queets is at 74,000 and still rising like a out of control hot air balloon!

The DOE gauges on Pilchuck and CC Stilly aren't even returning data now that the flows are over 3K.

CC Stilly @ 9 feet is around a flow of 3K. It is over 13 feet right now according to the USGS gauge. That is biblical.

Pilchuck correlates pretty well with NF Stilly. Flows of 8-11K on NF Stilly (according to AW and my casual empiricism) are usually good for Pilchuck. NF Stilly is at 28K.

Damn, that be a lot of rain.  The highest I've done the chuck was in the low 3's and it was bankful.  It was a fun level, the upper is definitely a big step up from 1300, but not a good place to swim since swimming to the shore would be like swimming into a strainer.

Is the green an option today?  Any way of figuring out if they'd ramp it up past 4k or higher?

Two thoughts... 1. Anyone think that the Upper Sultan will run sometime this week? And 2. Maybe the logjam on the CC Lewis will blow back out

I would i give a lot to have that log jam disappear and for that creek race to be back in there

You should see the size of the trees coming downriver.  Keep an eye out for new wood after this flood.

Wow Dave, hope all is ok at the homefront.

I'm just hemming and hawing here while hanging out with my son.  If a few could commit to the green, I think I can still motivate out.

Upper Sultan seems like it is flowing now. The level on the dam is still 25 feet below where they need to dump water (though it has risen 7 feet in the last 18 hours) and the upper gauge indicates no flow. So, it is coming in from the sides, not from the dam dumping (yet).

The gauge midway on the run says 570 cfs. Based on the AW site, by the time you get to the put-in for the Lower, level must be at least 1500 cfs before they add up to 1300 cfs to give you 2800 cfs on your way towards Last Nasty...

Im staying home where it is nice and safe and dry today...next time I am getting out is Wednesday...hopefully, depends on work schedule...

Dave and Rob and the guys are hitting up the sky, they said it is good up to 60,000cfs! Makes JP's run a few years ago look like the powerhouse on the Snoqualmi...

Well, looks like we dodged a bullet this time.  River came into the yard and made a mess but mostly stayed out of the garage.  If it had peaked 1" lower, it wouldn't have made it in the garage at all.

Dave, did you get the furniture and wood working gear out of the garage in time? I hope so, and I am glad it was only a bit... I am sure you don't want to test those flood vents out!

Man it was rainy last night!  i went and checked on pilchuck today, here is some video of what the falls area was looking like:

Posted By: arnobarno
Date Posted: 12 Dec 2010 at 8:06pm
Well, the quality of this video is not as good as the last post, I'm no budding Scorsese...

The Otterboy and I walked in to see Twin Falls on the SF Snoqualmie this afternoon when the river was at 2600 cfs (just a couple of hours before it peaked at 3300). The section of river above the II+ run (that you can carry up to the peculation pool) looked like Pilchuck Creek (at a normal flow). The Peculation Pool entry looked like class V as did much of the river between Twin Falls and the pool. Don't have any footage of this.

The falls were impressive though as we watched logs get trapped in an undercut of doom below the bridge and above the 2nd falls.

Here is some video of the falls...

Damn, that's huge.  That has to be at least 6k on the gauge.

Posted By: JoesKayak
Date Posted: 13 Dec 2010 at 11:14am
The gauge for the SF Snoqualmie is quite a ways upstream...so the actual flow would be way higher than 2600.
