Name an phone number/email, depending on what you comfortable giving to someone who might find your gear. The paddle: black paddles require either silver sharpie, or I've also seen people use a white paint pen with a polyurethane spray over it to protect, any other color black permanent sharpie works but requires reapplication every so often. Also writing it on the blade near the shaft helps to keep it from wearing off.
Somewhat related to your inquiry is this; write down the serial numbers of your boats or other gear that may have a serial number, if they ever get stolen it will be imperative that you have a documentation of this information. ------------- The line will become apparent 978-273-7723 |

[Not tagging but related to getting gear back]
Another idea that I borrowed from John M. is to put waterproof reflective tape on both sides of those black paddle blades http://www.austinkayak.com/products/2853/High-Intensity-Reflective-Tape.html - (click for example) Of course, best to hold onto your paddle if you swim. Any strap on the planet that says MFH is mine. Years ago I had staps made that were orange with blue buckles. Those are all mine too...

"Not Really Stolen" is a phrase I always use with straps too... I abbreviate it though so if you see any straps that say NRS those are all mine, Nkay |

You must write the phrase "free beer if found"on the inside of your boat. It helps immensly if well meaning rednecks would just assume use your boat as a new lawn ornament rather than give it back because they are too lazy to call. Also write your name and number where one can see it and also in a hidden place on the inside of the boat. This way you can identify any "stolen or salvaged" boats when evil-doers sand your name off and sell the boat to someone else for a "smokin deal". |

Great ideas! My old and weary red mamba is so beat to s-t (got it used), with a seat that has the special "gyroscope suspension" feature that allows me to completely spin in all directions without actually engaging the hull (that fine Dagger outfitting again!) that if some methbilly found it and could carry it to their compound (all 44 pounds!) and shoot it full of holes I'd thank them for giving me a reason to move on. But wait- a guy gets sentimental and all, I mean me and "Chili Waters" (my boat's name) have been pals since the git-go - me a noob and her a trusty work horse put out to pasture on Craigs List. We've been through a lot- pool sessions and swims mostly. She's been slammed into every rock from Big Eddy to Yo-Yo. And look- here is that special 'Rat Fink' sticker I put on her to make it look rad. No, I can't just toss her on the pyre. What was I thinking?! Bad ju-ju coming my way now, I just know it! |

What size is your Mamba? I have a friend coming out for a visit next spring and he paddles an 8.5. If yours is an 8.5 and you do decide to move on to another boat, I might be interested in buying or borrowing (name your beer) that old Mamba from you. Either way, it'd prolly be cheaper than renting one for seven days.
