Ok settle down everyone....

We all knew it was going to happen, I wasn't just flappin my gums the whole time.

Of course this is all a work under progress but it should turn out to be quite an improvement.

Lets here what you think.

James

Keep waiting... not a single post is moving... hhahaha your nuts O.

Instead I am going to keep working on new stuff for this site. I don't care about old posts. I can dig em up if need be.

I forget what the old one looked like already...
No wait, it had a lot of black. I like black. Black makes a great background.  This grey/white thing feels tame. Like we're discussing the best beach to land our sea kayaks.
Back in Black

The light gray is a bit harder to look at imo.

Interesting, it was changed because of the number of people that did not like the Black Colors. So does anyone like the lighter color's? I was a little mixed at first too. But after working with this color scheme and format for a few months I quickly changed opinion.

One reason I changed my opinon is the default settings of IE and Mozilla. Text colors are standard to be in contrast (Dark Text on Light Back Ground) when you invert the colors like the old site (Light Text on Dark background) browsers will often change the text color in your post if there were no colors specified. That was the reason that posts on the old site often had weird coloring when the formats changed.

An example would be bulleted lists that wanted to show up like this but inverted.

  • Preformatted text fields that were copied in were copied with default dark text (with our scheme now, it does not matter, but for arguements sake I have reveresed the problem to demonstrate what would happen on the old site.)

There's only a few forums I've dug in to - but I always prefer the dark background/light text for viewing.  Helll, it looks better on my smaDonkey Punchphone too.

James, you're a fellow rider - do you paDonkey Punchake in the sociological experiment of: http://www.advrider.com/forums/

OOps.. I wrote that a bit wrong in the Text Filter. Supposed to catch RT = Donkey Punch not any combination of r+t. Oh well thats fixed.

And again with the colors.. Lets all just get used to the new features and bugs etc.. then we can worry about the color. Apart from the color I would say the new site is much better overall.

Does anyone want a Hot Carl??
James,  I like the new layout, and I got your back on the color.  Having the directions to the take out on the trip planner page is sweet!
  Thanks for the hard work.
Peace

Thanks James. I am sure that the change took a lot of work. I have to say though that I agree with Hydro. The white background is a little too sterile, I liked the black!

I confess, I liked the site better before. Not only the color but also the trip planner.

I do like the new media section though.

James,

So first let me say how amazed I am at the time you take to put this together.  It is a real blessing for the WA kayaking community, and I know there are many who browse this sight just to see whats up.  Your work is far too under appreciated.

Now I took some time to explore the changes, knowing you like feedback, so here it goes...

The Revised Trip Planner rocks.  It's easy and convient.

The Gallery is pretty sweet.  I like the image display, video column, shortcuts to manage personal galleries and the comments box on the individual pics.
I miss the the beta on who took the pic, pic description, and the date of pic taken.

Just some ideas...
On the settings format are a series of questions for members.  Perhaps some questions could address the individual in an interview style format.   ie what's your favorite drink?  or not.

Beth offered one idea also.  The homepage looks blank-   maybe a pic of the week or month or whatever.

At any rate superb job.  Thanks for your contribution to the Washington Paddle community.  I look forward to watching this site grow in it's popularity and use.
