Another incident. This time a dive team was sent? Seems that they're all okay, so I don't know why a dive team would be summoned.

The thing that worries me about stories like this is that if we get a lot of official "rescues" some folks will start saying we should stop paddling because we're taking tax dollars. ------------- H2O please |

I heard the Sky incident was a guide training flip practice.
"...all 10 had managed to get themselves to safety along the river banks...got back in their rafts and resumed their trip down river. No one was hurt." Sounds like standard flip practice to me. ------------- I do not conquer that which is my partner. |

| It was a group of patrollers and maybe other stevens pass employees going out for fun. I know one of the persons named in the article. Saw him over the weekend and he mentioned the trip. He is a solid boater who has been at it for years and wouldn't put himself and others in a dubious situation. This was all under control and normal. A local resident just freaked and called the cops ... which seems a bit odd for someone who lives by the sky. |

I could be wrong, but perhaps after the news coverage of the incidents on the Green this weekend, someone who was in a heightened state of whatever-you-want-to-call-it saw some people out of their boat/raft in a river and narrowmindedly assumed......

Simply stated it sounds like an overreaction. Last year we had Chelan Co Sheriff called for a flip/swim at Granny's - just having fun. We were met by 4 different sheriff cars in the parking lot. Embarrassing....for them. They stated HWY 2 people call in 'very often' but this time the dispatcher made it sound as if it were a real emergency. Hard for them to tell what is and isn't not being there. On three other occasions I've been 'talked to' while boating up the Tumwater over the years. The roadside callers definitely can be a problem. | Any one know which day this happened? We ran it on Sunday and I think it was around 13.5K. Boulder drop went well but was definitely juicy in a raft at that level (never ran it before so have no clue what it looks like at other levels). Definitely no reporters waiting for us though! |
