Hey Kevin,

I'd recommend going to a department store and buying a set of those swimming pool, inflatable noodles. They fit almost perfectly. (A little scrunching is required). They're not quite as convenient as float bags. But they are about one-eighth the price and 100 percent as effective.

How would you secure this flotation Christian?
Personally, I think you should invest the $50 in good airbags that can be clipped into your boat. That way when you swim they will be there to protect your boat. The same type of water that will rip your bags out (big and swirly) is the same type that has the biggest potential to damage your kayak. I've seen way too many boats be destroyed during swims here in WA. I won't mention any names.
I highly recommend the Watershed Futa stowfloats. I've been using my pair for 4 years now. Many multidays as well as most of my day trips. They are the best way to store your breakdown paddle and are amazingly durable and dry.

Thanks for the tip on the Futa. Might have to score one of those.

Maybe not right on topic, but maybe using those noodley things in the bow behind the bulkhead? I have flotation up front that seems to help when the boat is submerged.

But hey, at least having some float bags is good. I have run across a few boats foundering in the water with nothing and they are miserable to haul. So a word to beginning boaters out there - fill up the space!
