Upper or full gorge run, if levels hold. Who's in for what?

I somewhat prefer a long Upper trip (for photos), but on such a nice day, I wouldn't mind running the whole gorge.

Apparently there is a search and rescue going on right now for a rafter who went missing at the nozzle. Hopefully they are just lost in the woods...

There is indeed, and I hope you're right. It was a sh*t show today..we came across two Wal-Mart rubber rafts wedged in strainers. While checking those out we came across another guy on shore who got caught on a log, swam under it, and lost half his sh*t including paddle. When his buddies showed up they were just happy to still have beer, thanked us, started chewing out their friend for leaving the group and continued to drink it.
A little while after we got to FG they were shutting everything down for a "river emergency". I tried to pass along what I'd seen to one of the rangers assistants who replied, "whatever". When an actual ranger showed up we told him what we saw and found out that the actual search was going on around the nozzle.
Hope everything is ok in the end.

If you're not prepared to be wrong you'll never come up with anything new.

First off, I apologise: it looks like I'm online a lot more than I am because I keep forgetting to log off and whatever I do it apparently has me plugged in.

Whatever.

In other news, as we were wrapping up our Upper trip today, we heard about fire/police showing up at FG around 2:30/3pm. Anyone know if there were more issues on the Green this weekend?

Sam, Stephan, and I all filled our boats with trash, too. GRCU round two. It never ends.....

Thanks for sharing that article. Really sad. The news on TV talks about the powerful, dangerous whitewater and shows some stock footage of a class II rapid somewhere.. but I guess it would be a lot of trouble to get or find actual pictures of nozzle. It would be helpful to know how he went from standing on the raft to... but one can only speculate.

More water, please.

The article painted a picture of what sounded like a wonderful guy who was passionate about his work and play.  I am sure I would have enjoyed boating with him had I ever had the chance.  Condolences to friends and family.

The entire media is stupid! The water wasn't fast and powerful and dangerous...it was at a low level. These people need to really get out and get educated. Next thing they will try is to keep people off the Upper Green because they feel it is too dangerous...Stupid press!!!
The Nozzle is actually more dangerous to rafts at lower water, I have seen many rafts pin and flip in the nozzle over the years at lower water levels. It is way more technical at low levels below 1,800cfs, but not big and powerful like the press pumped it up to be.

I feel sorry for the man who lost his life and his families loss, it is always a tragedy when something like this happens. Lets hope it's the last for a while.

My above comment is aimed at the TV news, not the written articles in above posts, the written articles seem a bit more tame than the STUPID, uneducated TV news.

I edited my comment, the TV news blew everything out of proportion and that is what I was refering to.

This is all really sad.

I also heard someone drowned and then was resuscitated on the Sky. Anyone confirm that and have details?
