Not exactly a local Seattle issue.  But the Gauley is an incredible run and an incredible whitewater resource - I am planning on a trip this september.  Thought I would post this from Boatertalk - apparently, Gauley Mountain is in danger of mountaintop mining which could be devastating for the watershed.

Please help save this beautiful natural resource....for both paddlers and non-paddlers alike. In light of the recent sludge spill in Harriman, TN, and with beautiful places like Gauley Mountain slowly disappering every day, the voices of outdoor enthusiasts like us need to be heard more than ever. The goal is 1000 signatures, and we're at the mid-600's....help push it over the top!
