5-10 canyoneers. Hands down. Unless you got big feet, then it seems the Tall Boys out there tend to like the 5-10 Tennies. I wear an 8.5 so the Canyoneers are perfect for me. They fit in the creek boat just fine.
I wear neoprene socks over my goretex drysuit booties all the time because while sand can get inbetween them, I feel like the neoprene socks protect the gortex pretty well and therefore keep my feet dry.
If you are playboating obviously you need a pretty low profile shoe.
totally agree on the thin neoprene socks over the goretex. I had holes in the socks within months. have been using the neoprene sox since. no holes in years. a few of us are using the alpaca socks. super warm. my feet are too big for the so called creeking shoes. I use self draining, trail running shoes with soft compound soles for rock adhesion. as low profile as possible and take the innersole out to fit the 3 pairs of socks in!! not the best for super long hike ins but sweet for rock hopping/scouting/portaging.
I wear a thin wool sock on the inside, a thing neoprene on the outside and then 5.10 Water Tennies. Man I love those shoes, no more skidding around. They won't fit in my small boat however.
