Talked with some folks from Portland who boated McCoy on Sunday, 5/12, and said......"Wood fest". Chinook and the 25er both had wood in them. One person ran the 25er, but said it wasn't recommended. Chinook is not runnable. Added an alert to the river page, but wanted to give folks a heads up, as this is typically the time for McCoy.

Chinook is effed too? Just the falls or the run? Is it beaver time?

I thought he was referring to this chinook:

Chinook link....

I guess it makes more sense if JD meant something on McCoy... I've heard BUD being called called Chinook too.
Ahh so many different names for the same rapids.

Normally I defer to names that are region specific, or culturally significant, or indicative of native species (or, jargon), i.e. "Chinook".

But damn, B.U.D. is such an awesome name for a drop. " Backwards and Upside Down". I remember scouting that classic series of drops and wishing to rename it on the spot to "F.U.R." (Forward and Up Right)
Fortunately my run was just that.

Too bad about the wood. I'm wondering if someone I talked to is glad he didn't rally down there as if it was going to be a turn-key-lickety-split-go-creek-the-sh*t kinda mission. Nothin like an abundance of wood to slow down an agenda.

I'd like to go back, but all the major drops were clean when I did it on 6/7/2008 with the following esteemed characters: Fish, Ben, Paul Gamauche (I miss that Punk), and a very off-the-couch-yet-no-slouch Chris Joose.

Maybe I will never return and simply preserve a nice memory. I'd hate to get all the way up in there to find a portage fest on such an exquisite creek. Not being able to run the 20'er and BUD would be heartbreaking. All this to say the following:

1) The report is much appreciated, JD
2) I honor those Boaters who sacrifice a day's worth of driving and effort to probe these off the beaten path runs. The converse is also true when someone can come back and give us a green light that a given run is clean. Thank You for your service.

I'm allergic to driving until I get some magical fuel efficient car. So I'll just keep to the Icicle and the Ten minute travel time. Its clean btw. You just gotta like water. Lots of it.
