Topic: Hidden LOG HAZARD in P.O.W. Posted: 11 Mar 2013 at 6:00pm
Just a heads up. Today I saw a 20-40' tree submerged in the last drop of P.O.W. (Tumwater). Most of the tree is underwater, a few feet of the trunk are visible in the eddy on River Right.
This tree is deeply submerged, aligned with the grain of the current somewhat. About 8-10' stick out of the current forming the last ledge drop.
You CANNOT see the wood from your boat at any point until you are right on top of it. Boaters who like to bomb rapids should be sure to scout the bottom of this rapid.
It looks to me like the wood has potential to deal out some particularly brutal beatdowns at the very least. There are 3" dia. Stubs sticking out along it...
Water was low today, under 1000 cfs easily. It may take a few thousand cfs to jostle it free, which may even happen this week. Until its gone, scout P.O.W. THE WOOD IS CLEARLY VISIBLE FROM THE ROAD, But not from the top of the rapid. I portaged, but there is a sneak routes through the rocks to the left of the wood.
Right on. Still not s comment huh? That's cool, no comment needed.
ima just. *BUMP* this thread one more time, 'cuz that hazard ain't no joke. You go bombin down POW without scouting it thouroughly, well, don't say I didn't warn ya.
