First off...Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Renting a cabin on the Sky near Gold Bar for a Thanksgiving get together and wanted to see if anyone was planning to paddle Thursday through Saturday.

Who's taking aim on Friday? Free all day during daylight, and would like to turn a Big lap from however high up (above the confluence) or double the Main.

Yo- help this brother out!
Sounds like a party qnd Id love to join but I gotta work solid all through that block.
Jshap, to answer ya, the Sky is a MUST RUN classic of PNW whitewater. A Seattle Staple of the highest degree. In my opinion its a toss up between a playboat or creekboat. You should be able to enjoy either. Its also a great run for rafts, I-K's, or whatever floats. Boulder Drop is class IV at all flows unless it is class V (like when its high or if you are commercially guiding). The rest of the run is broad bouldery class III. If the Skykomish doesn't impress you keep adding water in increments of 5,000-10,000cfs and sooner or later it will.
Its dry now, so your looking at low flows, but good quality water none the less. Anything above 1200cfs is straight up quality. Best low water paddling anywhere, really. It runs 365 days a year. 10,000 or more and the tribs feeding it go off and they are all pretty fun. So you should boat it, if only to see why you need to come back up when its stomping high.
Seriously. If you are avid about this whitewater stuff you owe it to yourself to learn a little about the drainage. Tye, Foss, Miller, Rapid, for starters, not to mention other misc. Gnar upstream and Clandestine Goods.
FOOLS WANT TO DAM SUNSET FALLS, DAWG!! TO SELL PUNY ENERGY CREDITS TO CALIfu*kINFORNIA!
so damn, the way people be "sleepin through a revolution", The "Yosemite Of Washington" is likely to be raped next time you are up here. Because no one gives a sh*t about nothin sacred.
Prove me wrong. Send another comment to FERC by December 1.

So, yeah- I probably won't let a single Skykomish thread pop up without plugging this:
http://www.savetheskyriver.org/petition/
Sorry you gotta cut and paste the link because this PP here is broken and daddy is too busy fixin other sh*t.
EVERY SINGLE PADDLER IN WASHINGTON AND OREGON AT LEAST SHOULD TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO GET INVOLVED WITH THIS. Repeatedly. Cuz its gonna keep rearing its ugly head until we slay it utterly and completely. Stay the course.
keep it real for real.

New to the Sky, I'll keep looking for the meeting point. I'm staying about 2 miles up from Sky town on the S. Fork. Cheers

Probably looking to meet up at split rock, there's a pull out on the side of hwy 2, if you're heading east coming from Monroe it'll be about 2 miles past big eddy park & will come up right as the river starts to really come into view from the road, just upstream from a railroad bridge, sorry I don't know the mile marker but it's easy enough to spot just look for cars with boats on top..

11:30 or noon is what Greg and I discussed yesterday, so he can get back earlier.
I bet there'll be a few people buzzing around out there.
