Are there any places on the Sauk to do attainments?

There's some cool moves in the in between sections and lower part of the run from whitechuck to Bachman and there's probably some better attaining water below Bachman, but i've never paddled it.

You might wanna try Rocky Road, just put in at Whitechuck and paddle up stream.

Its nothing like the lower Yough though...

Amen, brother-

But as my whitewater kayaking mentor Donald Rumsfeld once said,
"jP, you attain the sections of river you got, not the sections of river you want. Now sit up straight while you paddle."

Just kiddin fu*k that dude. I don't think he kayaks. Besides, I consider him a war criminal. But I digress.

The Sauk never struck me as a decent run to practice attainments due to its gravel bar make up.

But above the whitchuck confluence is a rapid with some pooled up eddies and boulders. And there ought to be a few other spots.

I like areas where there are a variety of medium sized boulders with small clean ramps of greenwater interwoven throughout. Deep greenwater eddies where you can plant a series of clean strokes. This is where pool/drop class III is the bomb with a "longboat", or better yet a slalom boat. The Middle Middle has a few cool spots at some flows, but the Skykomish is better with nicer rock. Several chunks of Bioulder Drop have viable attainments at various flows. From Split Rock up to Aquagasm is a nice stretch. Tumwater ( the 1200-1800 flows) has some spots where it is pooled up enough to eddy hop upstream for short distances. Robe has some spots, the White Salmon not so much. It either seems too rocky ( BZ to Hussum) or too steep (Truss). It is usually too narrowly focused. Then again the stretch from the dam up as far as you can go is nice.
