Topic: The drugs, the women, Nicaragua! Posted: 29 Nov 2010 at 5:15am |
You've always wondered about the drugs, the guns, the women, the jungle rabbits that kidnap small groups of gringos that're never heard of again. Well, so am I. Read about what happened when I went!!

pottert ~
Check out El Puerto for nice, clean, cheap accomodations. It's run by a German lady, I forget her name, but it's a great place. If you're looking for a lesson, Dave's Surf Shop or Big Wave Dave's or something like that has a great deal AND the Nicaraguan national champ works there and speaks decent English. Bonus! La gotita works in a pinch for a cracked open head, as long as it's under 2" and not a flapper. There are several great places to eat there, lots of gringos and euros, and a little bread place run by a guy and his wife from MI. Some of the best carrot ever. The lesson with board and everything was $20 and you could keep the board all day if you want. Shuttles are easy. There are many beaches to choose from, just pick the kind of trip you want (big waves or not). It's easy livin' there. There's another restaurant I can't remember the name of, more on the south side of town, that served reeeaally good food. They were a little more expensive ($10-12 instead of $6-8) but totally worth it. Don't drink the tap water. Most places don't have hot water. The AC is worth it! Ask prices ALWAYS before you commit to anything, otherwise you get the "gringo tax" and sometimes it's hefty. Have fun!!
Irene ~ thanks!!

Thanks, y'all. It is pretty good down here. I suggest spending the extra money when traveling from place to place down here and NOT riding the 'chicken bus' ;) Unless you haven't had the pleasure, in which case I highly recommend it!
Potter, it will be rad indeed. Put up a post when you don't have beer in both hands.

Thanks for sharing Brett! Your blog has allowed me to vicarously live through you while you're down there... I'm so jealous! Great pictures, and as always, an enjoyable read.
Keep it up!
