 Topic: Monday/tuesday boating? And beyond... Posted: 24 Dec 2011 at 3:19pm |
My wife and I are visiting from dc and are looking to hit some class 3-4 runs next week. I leave wednesday but she will be around later. Also if someone has a small creeker for her, diesel 60 or similar, and medium burn or similar for me that would be great and help us save some money. Otherwise we will support charlie up at aqua sports. Favorite regular runs on the east coast are upper yough upper gauley a couple fun trips on the lower big sandy etc.
I understand this is the first good rain you have had in awhile so surely some one has some creative options but we will are also up for the sky which we did on a previous visit and is close to family here. If hitting the sky play boats would be nice too if some one has something going unused. Have a great holiday weekend!

Wed, thur, n fri I am lookin to boat. Gonna be a game time decision tho based on flows. Lookin like I'm missin the Robe window, which is bummn me a little. But assuming Robe won't be in later this week (current forecast graph shows it as being way high then), I'd be open to options. If the Green is in, I'd do it.
If there's decent water you guys should check out the Tilton if you've never done it. It is very beautiful. Nowhere near as diffiult as the Upper Yough, Big Sandy, or Gauley, but great fun.

That sounds fun. You taking about the 2. Bremer to Ike Kinswa State Park (Lower) section?
After I leave Wednesday my wife sounds interested in boating later in the week too. I will have her read up on the green but it sounds fun. Upper gorge, correct? David

Yup:
Tilton: Lower section. Finishes up at Ike Kinswa park. Paddle out on lake. BIGWATER is your man if the Tilton comes in. But you probably want at least 1200 cfs for it. Not sure. I never ran it any lower myself.
Green: Upper Gorge. But you want about 1400 or more to cover up lots of small rock in places. People run it down to 900 and will leap to defend such absurdly low flows, but. Seriously if it isn't at least 1200 you may as well go to the Sky.
The Lower Green gorge is actually really sweet at around 900 or more, but its more of a class II+/III- kinda run. Some quaint diminutive surf, not much.
Can't go wrong with the Sky.

I'm going to be visiting my sister in Olympia Friday - Sunday. If the levels are good I'd be interesting in trying out the Tilton.

I should be boating fri-sun .... im gona be out on the Olympic for the New Years Party !
also the Tilton is still very good at 900 ... the play hole is realy nice at 900 with eddy service on both sides .... ideal lvls for the play hole are 900-1200 ..... below 800 and i start to hit the rock when throwing ends ... above 1300 and you start to lose eddy service
but there are many features that start to come in above 1200... the Tilton has always got something for ya at any lvl from 800 - 7000+

We would like to do the tilton tuesday but we will have to wait And see the level in the morning. We will call big water/chris if we are headed that way and would love some company. If that or the green is not in then hopefully someone will be headed to the sky. David
