   Topic: Any River

If you could kayak any river in the world WHAT would it be?
And why?
What makes it your perfect river? Have you done it before?
I am not looking for a list - pick 1. It will be the one you think about when falling asleep.
For me? Rio Futaleufu, Puente to Puente, Patagonia, Chile
Why? It looks absolutely GORGEOUS and scares the crap out of me at the same time. I love South America and the journey to the river would probably match the boating time!
I am looking forward to seeing the rivers / places I have never thought of, bring it.

I'm sorry Tobin, but this topic if it held true would likely end my paddling career. Just that for me personally, boating has always been about exploring rivers and places that I've dreamed of visiting. If I was relegated to running just one run for the rest of my sad life, well then, it's probably just a matter of time before it's all over....

I don't think he was going with the whole no cars pick one river for the rest of your life thread. We've done that, I think he was going for pick one river in the whole world your itching and dreaming of boating. Just one, share it, dream about it, then come back to reality and boat around here some more !!!!

Matta I think your talking about the dreamonish... Put me down for that one, the only problem is that getting to the put at shambhala is pretty tough, and to reach the take out in Asgard you have to pass through the garden of eden and I hear everyone gets kicked out of there so although enticing ... that might be a fantasy.

Indus River Pakistan. Get there, put on, and run class V big water on the same river for two weeks. On the same river for two weeks!

Although I agree the Futa sounds amazing and it is in my top 3 for sure, I am going to have to go with Bashkaus. The whitewater is world class and the run is pretty long with so much constant quality that it is like a week of Robe stacked up with a 2 day class III-IV ending. Deep in an isolated gorge on the opposite side of the world, It gets run enough that there is beta so you aren't risking getting skunked and at the same time it is not a paddling meca that hollywood boaters flock to...

The Onyx river in Antarctica has always been a fantasy river for me. Somehow I have always imagined running it as my swan song when I'm too old to run whitewater and just want to go off to pasture. Its been rafted before but not during big water....
Its the only river I have ever heard of that flows AWAY from the ocean!

First river I thought of was the Tsangpo, then it was the Fu.
To come up with my final answer, I would have to do a lot of research, look at a lot of pictures and watch a lot of video, so these are just the first that came to mind.

The Bruinen. It would absolutely be the Bruinen River. It's made up of two steeper tribs that I believe have some stout sections of creekin on them.
There aren't any Robe Gnomes on it, either. Maybe some Goblins and Wargs on those upper tributaries, though, so be careful.

Now that I think about it some more, I have a friend who scouted a run in Chile that is created from caved in lava tubes. As you float down the river, you see a strip of sky due to the fact all the walls are round and overhung because of tubes have only caved in at the top, you actually have to repel in due to this feature. Supposidly the run also has a clean 20, 30, 40 footer on it. My friend who worked with NOC said that a 40+ yr old woman hucked the 40 footer w/o much experience, sounds truly badass.

i would like to run baranof river in alaska. it has to be the shortest river in the world. at a little more than 1/2 mile it is a solid class IV with one class V... until the very end which is a class VI fall. there is one must hit eddy with shore access on the left just above the fall... missing this eddy will most certainly have tragic consequences. i'm not sure if it's ever been run, wikipedia is looking for confirmation.
