This is the Throw Bag Toss Competition discussion thread. Please post any questions below.

Remember the actual Trip Details are located on the Throw Bag Toss Competition | Trip Page

Ok- so this isn't really a trip, it's an event. It is the Throw Bag Toss Competition!!!

The planning comittee has given me the green light to go ahead with this one. I'm going to be fleshing out the details this week. It will probably occur sometime saturday evening when everyone is congregated near the fire, unless other goings on are happening.

Here's the basic scenario:

There will be several 5 gallon buckets spread out in a line at a predetermined distance from the contestants. Contestants will line up and throw their bags at the bucket. First one to hit the bucket or sink their bag in it wins that elimination round. Depending on how many people sign up, it may take on more of a tournament style event.

Save your questions for the event itself, when the details will be all worked out. meanwhile, if you have any suggestions, send them to me in a PM and if they fit into the mix, maybe they will be applied.

This will be loosely based on the way the raft guides do this competition down on the White Salmon, since it was more efficiant then the ways I've seen it done in the past.

I will be consulting Hans and Jed for some of the details.

For now I'd like people to sign up so I can get an idea in advance who is interested. Hopefully the SWAG CZAR will kick down an apprparitate prize for this event, 'cause rescue is important!

I know this info hasn't been posted long, but the sooner I get feedback about this event the better I can figure out how many people are interested in participating. If I don't get any substantial feedback by Friday night, the event will be cancelled.

But for those of you who may be interested, here are more details:

3-5 contestants will line up with throwbags, each with their own bucket set at a predetermined short distance. The buckets will be weighted to prevent them from moving or being knocked over as they are hit with throwbags. The first contestant to hit his or her target wins that elimination round. Hitting someone else's bucket does not count. It must be your own.
You can hit the rim of the bucket or the side of the bucket, or you can sink your bag in the bucket. If you are the first in your heat to do so, you win that round.
HOWEVER!-- if you hit the rim or the side of your bucket, and the very next bag thrown sinks theirs in their bucket, they trump your throw. If this very next bag thrown misses, though, and the bag thrown after that sinks, this third throw doesn't trump the first.

No stuffing of bags will be required during these early elimination rounds. After each heat has progressed through a round, the buckets will be moved further away. These elimination rounds will continue until the competition has been whittled down to the finalists. The entire event will be managed to facillitate expediency so we can get back to drinking beer around the fire as soon as possible.

The Champion rounds, however will be a little different:
You get two throws, and then you have to stuff your bag before you throw again.

I have yet to determine whether or not rocks will be allowed in the empty bags for throwing. If so they will be rocks of my choosing, based on their weight and size to ensure they are uniform for each contestant.

There you have it.
At this time I am opening up this discussion thread to anyone's questions or suggestions, criticisms, ect. I am willing to consider other ideas as long as they are basically consisitant with the general theme. Ultimately though, the rules and details of the event are at my discretion. I will likely not compete because I will probably be the referee.

Hoepully our Swag Czar can choose an appropriate prize for this important competition! Anyone who is a good shot with their throwbag deserves to be rewarded, because someon'e life may depend on it someday!

The event will likely be held on Saturday night, after the raffle, auctions, dinner, ect.
Hope to see you there and I hope you step up to the plate to challenge your skills!
