Robe is kinda heading down and I've never done it this low.

Some really solid PDX guys are passing through tomorrow, anybody know if its going to be a good day to head down?

It's also been a while since I've been in there, anyone running it?
H2O please

Dont run robe below 5 feet if you value the original shape of your boat. I have no idea what it looks like below 4.9 and I wouldnt suggest finding out.

It's going to be another month or so before I start seeing mid week options popping up in my schedule, or weekends for that matter

I have to say I strongly agree with Jonathan's general statement. However, I will also point out that I have run it as low as 4.5' or so, and with the exception of a few really manky places I was surprised at how fluid it actually went. That said, that was in 2008. And as any Robe Runner with their salt knows, as frequently as the river bed changes, there is no gaurantee it is still that clean at those absurdly low flows. Garbage most certainly isn't.

The conventional wisdom that 5' should be the basic cutoff still holds. But 4.9' will do if you are particularly hard up and nothing better is running.

On another note, what I'm really psyched about is all of the traffic on the Robe Watch Thread this year, all without my prodding and encouragement. Hell I hardly post here anymore.

Robe is THE best, most frequently runnable class V staple for the Seattle-Bellingham zone. It is great to see people getting out on it. Hopefully more of the local clss V boaters in the area will come out of the woodwork so we all have a greater pool or boaters to run with during these last minute, weekday afternoon runs that will be occuring over the next few months...

there is way to increase the pool besides hoping people come out of the woodwork....help your local ASPIRING Class V boater develop the skills to run Robe!

just sayin'....

....thanks, JP, for being a (quality) mentor.

Don't mention it, Chipper. Happy to oblige. Keep you eyes on the Truss over the next several weeks- I plan on going down to Hood River almost exclusively till Ici comes in. When it does, you should try to hit it up early on its way up, and stick with it as the flow increases (you'll be a bit more familiar with it whch will help). Maybe try to get on the Ohane.

Honestly, for boaters on the cusp of class V, you can't go wrong with the Truss and Ici, provided you're with someone who can really keep an eye on you.

like JP said. in addition, paddle creeks you already do, but start running them higher. the Top Tye is a good one for this.
