My swims, thankfully not too many this year, are not very exciting. Still WAY less than Adam!! Let's see.. 1: stupid rock on the Nisqually 2: stupid hole in Snowblind 3: stupid Leif hole baiting on the Deschutes 4: stupid stupid rock on the Elwa (I still can't believe that one!!) 5: White Salmon Oh, yeah, and that is still not as many as Adam had on the Middle Middle.... I'm probably forgetting some, but I'll be pretty excited once I get that combat roll...

Yeah, my boat is pink, it's okay to be jealous.

I swam the Tiltion in the big hole at the bottom of Leap of Faith, but at least I got some cartwheels under my belt. Even unintentional ones count? right?

It wasnt very funny at the time. the lower tiltion goes through a narrow sustained class III+ IV gorge with nowhere to drain a kayak, thankfuly we had a raft along.

Note my signature, I am overdue.
Maybe it's time for me to "nut up" a bit more.
Also, I'm pretty sure the Canyon Pow and KTW are speaking of is Gore Canyon on the upper Colorado. I'm hoping to make a trip out there sometime.

Ashley - not so much bickering as a Cold War, just looking at each other waiting for the other to screw up so you have ammo. There, that should be enough gas to keep the fire burning for at least another 4 or 5 days.

So far I've only had one swim this year (so far!), and it wasn't too bad..
I decided to try out a creeker on the Sky @ 4200. I thought, oh I'll just boof right through Ned's, no problem...Not so much! Turns out you can't just be-bop through boulder in a creeker that you've paddled for all of 45 min. and not get stuffed! I hit at least one roll, but got sucked back in and tried a few more before realizing that Ned's wanted to teach me a thing or two. Lesson learned! I will always respect BD!

Well, I had two swims since paddling season started for me last October when I discovered Professor Paddle - one swim comical, one swim serious.
The serious one was well documented on PP. High water Lower Foss run; hit barely submerged strainer (and texasdave), flipped and then sucked out of my boat with extreme prejudice.
The comical one was on the SF Snoqualmie. Ran down the weir, pinned on the rocks on the right and I was trying to rock my boat with my right hand in order to get free. When I freed my boat, boat slipped through the rocks, but, paddle was in my left hand and underwater and it got wedged against the same rocks as I slid through. So, w/o paddle or hand roll, I quickly went over and swam. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve the paddle two weeks later when the water level dropped! But the swim cost me a round of beers.

If we're just talking 2007, then I had two in the same day. Farmlands at around 5 feet. Got beat down just after little lava where the river bends and drops to the left. The hole, the wall, and the paddle and boat of the next person who got stuck in there had it's way with me. The next came in the set of rapids right before the shallow stretch. Definately shouldn't have swam there. Self rescue the first time, could have the second but people were quick to me and I welcomed the help.

Well, I believe a few of you got your wish this weekend as a certain someone finally came put of his boat. I'll let him elaborate on the specifics. He gets a big for balls anyway, his judgement on the other hand... well it happens to all of us.
On the other hand I get a big . I got disoritented in POW, took the wrong line and was momnetarily pinned. I stayed in my boat and finished the line upright but I don't want to thing about what might have happened had my bow been pointing in the other direction. This is a good reminder that low water is not safe water. The dangers just change. James has told me several times it is often safer to run the meat than to sneak, I'm starting to see his point.
Also, keep your eye out for bears now that the salmon are starting to run in places. We saw a sow and 2 cubs just below POW. At one point mama bear was 10 feet from my boat!

To elaborate on what Tom said - I have another swim to record (and a video of some bootie beer that I'm sure Tobin will post ASAP, mmmm, gritty) Bit off a little more than I could chew in the Wall and decided pulling skirt was the better part of valor after getting slammed up against a rock and drug over a few more upside down. Ran Chaos alright, and took a good look at POW. While I was walking it (I may be dumb, but not quite THAT dumb). I did whip out a good roll on the run out from Chaos, so good in fact I went right back over the other side. I'm happy to report the HOG retention system on the Shred Ready helmets works as advertised, I took one shot in the grill, one under the chin, two to the back of the head, one to the shoulder that knocked my paddle out of one hand, grabbed the paddle and rolled up. Through that all, the helmet didn't budge, but it defintely has some good scrape marks. Again, I'd like to thank all the guys that were out on that run for their patience with a newbie trying to step it up. Yep, defintely had a bad run on the Wall, but I spent quite a bit of time today looking at it and I'm looking forward to trying it again sometime soon. - Adam

One memorable swim I forgot to mention, was in June on the SF Payette, canyon section. I do not know hte name of the drop, but I plugged a eddie hole on the left ( my only description for it) and tried abotu 10 times to roll up. I never got my head outta the water, I have never felt less paddle purchase! I got shoved against the canyon wall as I was getting outta dodge.
Swam out with my boat, Leif got my paddle.
Drank up for that one!!!

I think that boat has recorded almost as much river time without me in it as I have paddling it.

Maybe that is true for that run, but from what I understand you had not swam in quite a while.

We were on the sky, 900cfs and throwing bows into a ledge above split rock.... I had just jested with a fine young lady that our play wasn't that hard.... so I throw a bow in, side surfed a bit and attempted 5-6 rolls before calling it! God damn I was laughing hard when I came up for air... The boys mentioned something about booty beers and I laughed harder... I don't even own booties!! Well..... all that laughing was even funnier when I opted to run the second half of Last Nasty upside down and backwards with no paddle. I drank the damn booty beers

Failure to booty up usualy leads to more swims in the very near future, at least that's been my experience....
