Small piece of wood blocking the right side of the center channel at Big Momma, far right sneak still clear. No other wood to mention. "Landslide Portage" was good to go on the right at 700 cfs - Posted by: kevinh on 3/20/2014 11:44:00 PM -  [Remove Alert]

As you are driving the shuttle you can take a right on a road to view High Steel Falls Bridge. It is a very dramatic view from above.
For Catboats, this run makes the Cascade seem like childsplay.

   Run Description [Season: Rain]

OP gem that sees only a fraction of attention it deserves for being such an awesome long run so close to seattle. This run will offer up both challenging rapids and killer scenery for those willing to put up with little bit of flat water.

The run starts out with a 1-2 mile flat water paddle through breathtaking National Forest land.

The first gorge is the easiest of the two gorges on the run and starts with a straight forward class IV rapid. After a few more class III+ rapids you come to Big Momma Jomba.

After this rapid the gorge quickly opens up and you have to paddle another mile of flatwater before reaching the second gorge.

The second Gorge starts off with a solid class IV+ rapid with a sneak peak eddy on the left. The river splits around a huge rock in the middle, you can run right or left but wood can be an issue here. Be careful going left at higher flows, as a nasty terminal ledge hole forms and peeps have been served. Be careful going left at lower flows too because its a tight fit between some shallow rocks below.

From this rapid you will have a few more 3-4 foot class IV ledges that are spaced out and fun before reaching High Steel Falls and Bobbing for Butler, see feature descriptions.

After Bobbing for Butler you will have a straight stretch in the river and then very next rapid is a V drop that used to be filled with wood. This rapid may be portaged on the left.

A few more miles of Class III and some great views brings you to Mr. Toads Wild Ride. This rapid is basically the last drop on the run and after this you can look forward to a 3 mile paddle out.
