  Access

The access on this run is sketchy. There are put-ins on the reservation, but I wouldn’t recomend using them. Have someone running shuttle so you don’t leave your car there if you do. You can get to one put in by going to the town on Glenwood, WA. Take a right on Main St (if coming off BZ-Glenwood Hwy) and go through town. Head 0.5 miles east toward Goldendale and turn north on to Mt. Adams Rd. Follow this road 2.3 north to the T junction and turn left on the K1000 road. This road has gravel and pavement patches, and has trees with numbers marking the miles. As soon as you pass tree with an orange ’4’ sprayed on it, take the next dirt road on the right down to the put in.

  Putin Details

The put-in is down a dirt road that may be blocked by fallen trees or other obstructions. Bring a chainsaw if it is early in the season. It is about 2 miles down a sketchy gravel road to the river.

  Takeout Details

The Leidl Campground is easy to get to and seems safe. Its on the right side around a bend. Good free camping too. Its on the Glenwood-Goldendale Road which is what main street turns into as you leave Glenwood headed east.

  Fun Facts

Beautiful gorges with basalt columns and some camping spots where you could make it a multi-day.

   Run Description [Season: Winter-Spring]

The Klick is a really beautiful run. It is VERY remote and down in a deep gorge. There are many continuous rapids at flows above 2500, and there is no way out for the first 9 miles from the put-in to the fish hatchery. The run has many braided channels and logs are a real hazard. In 2006 there was a fatal accident on this river involving two flippped rafts and swimmers into a log jam at higher flows (around 4500+). The river has been run up into the 7000 range, but would be very fast, continuous, and eddyless.

The first 5-7 miles have deep gorges with huge walls. There are numerous Class III rapids with some wood and braided channels. About 6 miles in you begin the Miracle Mile section of Class IV with really fun rapids and big waves. This continues until the fish hatchery around mile 9 on the right side. There is river access here as well. There is a weir around the corner marked by the overhead foot bridge and hatchery. It can be portaged or run on the far left side.

From the hatchery down, the run is really fun Class II+-III with good wave trains, fun corners, swirly eddy lines, and boils in a more open canyon. It is really beautiful and doesn’t have much wood or consequences. Keep an eye out for a island where there is a tree in the right channel and go left. The take-out at Leidl is about 9 miles down from the fish hatchery. There is road access on some of the lower section.
