   Run Description

Drive to the take out, if the last drop looks like it has enough water you'll be good to go on the whole run. There's a saying around here that you can't run the French too high. That has been proven wrong at least once. Swims here at high water tend to send boats on a long, steep ride out into Lake Superior.

This run has an assortment of class IV drops spaced out between numerous class III-IV drops/boogie water. As far as I know, none of them are named but it gets run frequently and is a good introduction to North Shore boating. Basically meaning it's all slides just smaller than most of what you'll find on most other runs.

It's relatively short and can be run in about 15-20 after you've taken a slow lap to make sure there's no wood. There are some unstable banks that tend to drop trees after high water events and/or winter ice storms.

If memory serves me correctly there are about 3 big slides that stand out, one of which stands out above the others. If you have recent beta on the wood situation and you're comfortable, any class IV boater should be able to blue angel through the run, just follow the water.

Near the end you'll encounter the Machine Gun Ledges. These aren't as big as the slides but they'll dish out a beating at high water. Don't swim here if you want to go home with your boat.

Make sure to catch the eddy right away when you get to the bridge at Ryan Rd. The river continues under Hwy 61 and into the DNR fish hatchery. The drops at Hwy 61 have been run exactly once. I believe his words after were, "It's not advisable." Pretty manky but feel free to look and make up your own mind.
