Run DescriptionIf it looks like you can float a kayak under the bridge at Lax Lake Rd. there's enough water for a run. Look for around 300cfs on the Baptism as their watersheds are right next door to each other. Responds well to rain.
This is run is all about the 3 waterfall sequence about 3/4 of the way through the trip. There are numerous read and run class III/IV rapids leading up to the main event, but it's a good idea to go with someone who knows it because you could easily boat blind into the class V sequence of falls. If not, just catch a lot of eddies. The last eddy before the first big drop is on the right and it isn't much of an eddy unless you know you're looking for it.
Ok, the waterfall sequence is something like this. The first is an off angle drop of about 20-25 feet. At low flows the line is usually to enter right and fight your way left to catch a flake about half way down. Keep your bow up if you can and stay in control as the second waterfall is only a few yards downstream. This one is a perfect 15 footer. At low flows you can boof or plug, dealers choice. At higher flows you'll want to clear the hole at the bottom. Stop here and enojoy the view! You're in a deep, narrow canyon with cedars overhanging the river. Hike up the rocks on river left for a second lap on this drop. And a third. The third falls is just around the corner and can supposedly be run anywhere but I've usually run about 15 feet off the left wall.
Everything past this is just read and run class III, but be warned at low flows all of the rapids besides the falls sequence are junky and boat abusive.
