Other IssuesIn the past the only gauge is the stick gauge that’s attached to a tree in the river just upstream of Apocynum.
Environment Canada has a realtime gauge for the Nahatlach:
NAHATLATCH RIVER BELOW TACHEWANA CREEK (08MF065) [BC]
Flows are likely to be a bit higher than the gauge shows as several tributaries enter below the gauge. Please help us dial in the range of flows.
28 cfs (980 cfs) equals about -.3 on the tree gauge and is a good low side of medium level for the upper run

Run Description [Season: ]Great river with continuous rapids. The Nahatlach is a great river for later in the summer. Except in years with below average snowpack, it generally runs medium to medium high in July and medium to low in August.
After paddling out of Frances Lake you have a couple hundred yards of class 2 warmup before the action starts in earnest. After you pass under the bridge, the river makes a left turn and begins Rosegarden rapids, which is a long (200+ yards) class 3-3+ that leads to Meatgrinder, a steep class 4 that has a huge hole at some levels. You can get a peek at both of these rapids during the shuttle. About 1/2 mile down is Headwall Rapids which consists of a long class 3 lead-in to a steep boulder ledge just above a headwall. Class 3-4 depending on levels. The rest of the run has has plenty of 3 and 3+ rapids and keeps busy all the way to the takeout. Class 4 at higher levels because it gets very continuous. A couple spots can collect wood, so keep your eyes downstream. Take out at Apocynum or continue down to the canyon if levels are right.
