Run DescriptionThe Thompson is one of those rivers that you have to plan a trip around like the skook. The water is warm the weather is hot and the scenery is dry. So what do you want to do all day besides get wet... Nothing?
The run starts out with a nice big wave called The Frog. The frog is only in at certain flows and although it is a quality wave the eddy service is rough and there is a nice size rapid just behind it that can mess up a beginner.
Just below the Frog wave is another class III rapid with a large wave train before you come to the Cutting Board. The Cutting board is where the river splits around a small rock island.
After the cutting board you come to Witch's Cauldron where a large pour over hole is known to gobble up boats. Below there are 2 or 3 more good sized class III rapids before entering the lower gorge.
The lower gorge is broken out into a seperate run on this site because there are many folks now that are not running below the cutting board. The reasoning is that the lower canyon offers little to no play, long long stretches of flat water and wind that can blow you up stream. All factored together many choose to take out below the Cutting Board or Witch's Cauldron.
