  Access

Access is very straight forward, there are multiple possible takeouts & several put in spots as well since coal creek rd follows closely to most of the creek.

  Putin Details

To reach the put in take i5 till you reach the 3 rivers mall exit at longivew(also the hwy 4 west exit). Head west for several miles till longview starts to dissapear and you reach the last stop light in town(Coal creek rd!) Make a right here and continue upstream for approximately 6 miles till you reach a fork, continue left up Coal creek road about 2 miles to a very wide shoulder at an uphill right turn. This is the put it.. unless you want to go up stream more.

  Takeout Details

to reach the takeout make a left onto Harmony dr a.5 miles after making the right onto coal creek road. there is a bridge about a quarter mile downhill that is the takeout, coal creek ascends upstream on the right.

  Fun Facts

Bennett's book describes a 12 foot waterfall in the middle of this run, that he says has not been probed for fear of rebar. This is based on a false notion. The falls in question are a very apparent horizon line easily scouted & are not man made! Totally natural bedrock ledge!

   Run Description [Season: rainy november-april]

Yet another amazing run with no information aside from the bennett book.
This creek is a gem for sure! With more features than most 4+ runs downsized to fit a class 3+ classification.
This run has it all! Drops, slides, falls, unique eddies, scenery & the safety of a riverside road!
The first mile and a half drops 150fpm and the last drops 180 fpm so there is plenty of action for a solid 3/3+ paddler and plenty of fun for the class 4 paddler.

The first mile is proper creek like, double drop, triple drop, 5 foot slide into 6 foot drop etc. once you reach the actual waterfall(12 foot non artificial falls) youa re half way. there is an easy portage on river right. The bottom half of the run is substantially different than the top.

Dropping 180feet in the last mile the creek turns into a solid class 2+/3 rapid until the finish.

After the 12ft falls you will bounce through several easy rapids until you reach a solid double drop into a left hand corner. There is a tree on river left with a piece of stark white plastic chair leg stuck in its branches and several cairns near the base, after noticing this you will reach the first mandatory portage of a log jam stuck in a right hand turn.

Shortly after the action picks up into the last mile-mile and a half of the non stop Pebble(not quite boulders) garden before reaching the final short bridge takeout.

if you would like to cut this run into pieces there is a kingdom hall in the middle of the shuttle. At the back of their parking lot there is steep access to the top of the last mile or so of the run.

It is possible to take out at the fork in the road of Coal creek rd, avoid the 12 ft falls, and put in again at the kingdom fall and get the full experience of the top mile and bottom mile without too much effort(this was my strategy first solo).
