  Putin Details

Head up the Beckler River Road. It turns off US 2 just west of the takeout bridge over the SF Skykomish. Continue up to the bridge over the Rapid River. There's an easy putin and parking here or continue up. There's another mile or so of good rapids above the Rapid confluence. However, during snowmelt often alot of the water is coming from the Rapid, so it may be too low above it.

  Takeout Details

US2 Bridge over SF Skykomish just below confluence with the Becker. Take out river left.

As of 6/7/09 there are 3 portages around logs on the middle section. All pretty easy though. - Posted by: JoesKayak on 6/8/2009 8:19:00 AM -  [Remove Alert]

11/3/12 only 2 portages. I run it to my cabin frequently. At higher flows above 9k may be able to go over but beware. First portage there are 3 channels that come up n all have wood, easy to spot n portage . 2nd is in left channel bending to the right with riverwide tree down. Slow moving water so easy to portage. - Posted by: WhiteWater on 11/5/2012 8:40:00 PM -  [Remove Alert]

5/6/13 Only one portage, but tiny eddy to get ashore to portage tree across river. Several other spots require scouts or ducks to get under overhanging logs. All wood is in middle section after gradient eases. - Posted by: LisaF on 5/6/2013 8:52:00 PM -  [Remove Alert]

A new gauge on the SF Sky @ Skykomish is up. Please post recent trip beta here until we get levels dialed in a bit.

Wood issues change from season to season.

   Run Description

This run is a mixed bag. The first couple miles are fun and have fairly continuous class 2+/3- rapids at medium levels and at the Beckler River bridge there's a fun drop under the bridge and a couple fun boulder gardens downstream. In between the middle section of the river has 3 miles or so of braided channels where logs collect, and there's often at least one portage in this section. The middle section of the run makes it a bit sketchy for beginners to be on.

FLOW INFO: There's no gauge on the Beckler, so the Sky at Goldbar gauge is used, and like other tributaries of the Sky, it does not provide a very accurate correlation. During rain events, especially with a low freezing levels, the Beckler will be lower, and during snowmelt the Beckler will likely be higher. The recommended range is based on snowmelt, so if you go during winter rains you'll likely want a higher level.

You can get a good visual on the river level from the bridge over the river about 1 mile up from the turnoff from Hwy 2. The rapids here also give a good indication of the type of rapids to expect on the upper stretch.
