  Access

To reach the Clack: From I-205 exit onto Hwy 212 at Clackamas. After a few miles turn right onto Hwy 224 and continue through Estacada. You'll pass the reservoir and after a couple miles there is a truck scaling station which serves as the lower take-out.

  Putin Details

Continue up Hwy 224. There are a number of alternate access points as you go upstream: At Bob's Hole, Fish Creek, Just above Hole in the wall, and at the Sandstone bridge. The upper put-in is at Sandstone bridge. Just before the river crosses this bridge, a gravel road takes off to the right. The put-in is just 50 yards down this road.

  Takeout Details

At the far end of the station is a parking area for boaters, the lower take out. There are a number of alternate takeouts as well, including the new takeout at Moore Creek about a mile upstream from Memaloose.

  Other Issues

Hole in the Wall rapids is very dangerous and has claimed several lives. It consists of a terminal eddy on the left side. A chain ladder was installed back in the 80s by kayakers. It's not a difficult move to avoid, just stay RIGHT here to keep out of the left side pocket eddy. You can see Hole in the Wall from the road, about a mile upstream from Fish Creek road.

  Fun Facts

Great 3-4 run close to Portland. Lots of variety. Annual raft races and kayak rodeo.

   Run Description [Season: Year-round]

You can run the Clack year round, but it's usually pretty low (<800) in the summer. Moderate flows are in the 1500-4000 range. Big water when it's up high.

You can take a long day and do the whole run or just run sections. A popular short run is to put in at Fish Creek and take out at Bob's hole.

The named rapids go basically like this: Powerhouse, Narrows, Roaring River, Hole in the Wall, Fish Creek, Armstrong, Carter Bridge, Big Eddy, Rock n Roll, Toilet Bowl, Bob's Hole.

A number of the standout rapids can be scouted easily from the road on the drive up including Bob's Hole, Carter Bridge, Hole in the Wall and Powerhouse.
