from the takeout, head back up to hot springs ave and take a right. turn right at the four way stop onto wind river road. take a left onto high bridge road after about 2 mi. then take a right on old detour rd, which will go down to the river. this putin is the takeout for the wind river stabler to high bridge run.

  Takeout Details

from I-5 near vancouver wa, head east on hwy 14 up the columbia for about 50 mi. take a left on hot springs avenue towards the town of carson. head up the hill and take a right onto st. martins springs rd. when the road splits, take the right side which will turn into a steep dirt road that goes down to the river. you could also paddle all the way to the columbia(boat launch), but this takeout avoids alot of flat water.

  Other Issues

shipherd's falls falls are only runnable during low flows, due to nasty weir at the bottom.

  Fun Facts

high canyon walls in some places, remote feel, four waterfalls

   Run Description

during low summer flows, you will scrape your way down through a maze of boulders. you will encounter beautiful canyon walls, and a few fun drops. the first drop you come to is called "beyond limits", and is marked by a concrete fish ladder on the left. it was good to go at low flows, but at higher flows, it apparently has a nasty keeper at the bottom.   the next major rapid is called "the flume". we chose to portage this narrow frothy channel on the right, but it has been run. shipherd's falls, which consists of four water falls, is marked by a high foot bridge and can be scouted on the left. the first fall(14 ft?) is kind of 'u' shaped, and was run successfully on the left, where there is kind of a nice little shelf to push you out. the center of this falls would be a bad place to get stuck. the second fall(15 ft?) can be run right down the middle. the third fall is more of a cascade with some bouncing off rocks. take a look at it and decide where you want to run it, but you will probably hit rocks no matter what. immediately after the third falls is the weir, so you need to paddle hard hard to the left side of the weir, where it opens up to allow water to flow through. all of the falls can be scouted on the left, and you can run/portage whichever ones you want. the last drop is about 8ft tall. after this, you will find some hot springs a couple hundred more yards down on the left, and the takeout is another hundred yards down on the right. the takeout is also marked by some red-ish concrete blocks on the left.

**note**
i havent run this during normal flows(snow melt or rain) but i would imagine it would be alot of class IV boulder gardens, some class V drops (beyond limits, the flume) as well as the falls being considered unrunnable due to not being able to avoid the weir.
