  Fun Facts

This run is nice to combine with the "upper" section to make a 12 mile run. It is recommmended to run it at higher flows to facillitate a fairly expedient trip with all of the gravel bars covered. You'll probably see some eagles and great blue heron.

   Run Description

WOOD HAZARD (4/12/18): Very sketchy log jam in place toward the bottom of the gorge. Egress from the canyon above the log jam is not possible. At low water, it looks possible to eddy out and either climb over the logs or squeeze under on river left. High water could make this a deadly spot. Not a spot to take a class II-III boater at any water level. If you decide to attempt this gorge, SCOUT the log jam BEFORE you put on.

Below 6 mile bridge, it barely gets more difficult than class III- so consider it a class II+ run overall. Very scenic. Mostly the standard gravel bar/braided channel character, with one short beautiful class II canyon. This canyon may have a few nice play waves at the right levels.

You probably want current for this run, so higher flows are best. beware to pick the proper channels around the islands, though, and always watch out for wood.

When you get down to where the houses and cottages are, there is one obvious spot that will make you drool if you own a squirt boat and know how to use it.

A great run to take beginners on. Paddle all the way out onto Hood Canal. It's cool.
