AccessThe spur road as described by Bennett takes you to the bridge. The road was open as of July '08. A car with clearance is recommended. Looking upstream you can see the mess of logs that plagues the upper 3m miles. |
Putin DetailsI put in on the downstream side of the river part of the bridge. It was the best option, through some poison oak and then down the rocks and logs to the river. |
Takeout DetailsThe take-out is the put-in for the gnar run at Marble Creek campground. Don&'t miss the take-out as hiking out from SWB or floating into it would not be fun. |

Fun FactsThis section is rarely run. I saw no signs of human kind anywhere except for an abandonded bridge until Marble Creek. The valley is amazingly beautiful and the signs of wildlife are abundant. This is very much a scenic river. |
Run Description [Season: after peak snowmelt]I did this run solo since no one was available to do the lower Class V run with me. There is a reason why this isn&'t a very popular run: portages. Around the first bend I had a short portage carry. Within the first mile I encountered a huge log jam that diverted and fanned out the water in all kinds of directions. Most of the water went into a heavily forrested area. I followed the old river bed to a side channel which again became diverted before moving back towards the woods. A short walk through the woods brought me back to the main channel which emerged from the forrested/logchoked area. 3-4 more short carries were requried from here before another huge jam which again required me to walk in the old river bed until it rejoined the main flow. After this portage there was just one more short carry around a log before Marble Creek campground. The whole trip took me about 2.5 hours including portages....
