My favorite blue lines....
One of my favorite runs EVER has to be the CF of the Y. It's other worldly-like being on another planet. The Canyon planet, I guess. ( I wrote some bad poetry about it recently in the forums somewherez).
While the Middle Fork of the Salmon isn't as greuling, or as intense, it's very beautiful as well. Plus there are all of those hotsprings and pictographs everywhere. Watch out for rattelsnakes!
Then let's not forget the gems of Costa Rica! El Rio Chirripo Del Atlantico es mucho Fuerte, Muy Bravo. Auguas Gigantas. Pura Vida, Muy!
And, of Course I can't leave out West Virginia. Mountain Mama. Take me home. Country Road 'an shit. Pretty much the entire state of West Virginia counts as a favorite run. I like the Blackwater, though it has some sharper edges to its personality. The N. Frk of the B is more verticle than it's niieghbor. I liked it too, but it was the longest mile and a quarter that I've ever paddled. It was pumping chocolate milk when i ran it (only once). Ya know, if you EVER get a chance to go back to WV and run the Gaully, DO IT. Stop into Friendsville, Md while you're there and catch a weekday release on the Upper Yough. Between the Yough and the Gaully,
it's pretty much "Whitewater Metropolis". I know different regions of the country have contributed to the sport and culture of whitewater paddling in different ways at different times, But the region between the Yough, the Cheat, and the Gaully rivers is really where it all got going. Period. Then it spread to the Southeast, and slowly The Edification belatedly made its way out west to crosspollinate the paddling going on between California, Utah, Washington, Idaho, ect.
